So how many parts are you still running that are stock?

I was thinking about this the other day. I am starting to collect maintenance parts for the car that have not failed but we know they eventually will.

I have several cooling system parts, a new alternator, etc. I have as my signature indicates not been afraid of upgrading things, but overall I have not gone crazy with the car by any means...

What got me thinking is the fact I am still on stock hoses, water pump, thermostat, radiator, condenser, ac compressor (yes knocking on wood as I type this).

19 years since the car came down the production line and I have only had 3 appreciable failures...1.) throw-out bearing at 60k 2.) Fuel pump at 15 years old, and 3) an AC hose that popped 2 years ago.

I would say from a durability standpoint...this car has been pretty amazing...Have to say from a build quality standpoint it could be argued it is at least as good if not a touch better than the 2021...

Anyway...just random thoughts on a Saturday...

Re: So how many parts are you still running that are stock?

It's fascinating that I have been kinda pondering this same thing...

I too am still on the original hoses, water pump, thermostat, radiator, condenser, ac compressor and even the serpentine belt for that matter... the car is fast approaching 100k miles so these things have weighed on my mind.

The throw-out bearing started chirping at 62k miles... think i just about got the last OEM Cobra clutch ever sold retail and went ahead replacing everything.
The clutch cable went somewhere around 80-90k... i didn't keep track because i had another factory replacement on hand and it was literally 10 minutes to swap them.

Fuel pump went a couple of years ago... I really think only because the car sat for too long without being started or driven.

Changed to NGK spark plugs around 75k. Have had a spare set of coil packs for longer than can be remembered waiting for one of those to pop.

The brake pads have been replaced once... Have no idea when or how many miles. Still on the original rotors and calipers.

What I don't have are the original grey valve stem caps.

at this point I think I have the original condenser, radiator, ac compressor, power steering pump and seats. Although that's not because stuff broke, just went down the financial black hole route

I know the saga from the other forum - at least tell us what the final fix ended up being, might take you a while to type that whole saga

Re: So how many parts are you still running that are stock?

Replace those radiator hoses... cost me a motor! I blew a hose (it was original) and the turbo sucked in the coolant and boom... motor gone!

Anyway... the short of it is, under the hood I think the only thing left originally is the wiring harness and brake system.

Interior is mostly stock but heck even all the electronics are no longer stock, heck the computer is a Fueltech FT550 now. lol ... yikes, scrap that wiring harness above... yup not stock anymore. lol

carpet is original... yeah, that is about it. haha

paint... nope, brakes, nope, rear end, nope, driveshaft nope... dang I think i have a problem.

not gonna lie - my first thought was "well why the **** would he drive that far after it popped" then I finished reading. That's a tough pill to swallow! Mine got all new hoses when I did the On3 crossover delete
