Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
I saw a few pictures of the new 2018 Ford Mustang today, and I didn't really like the new headlights, rear wing (performance package), or lower portion of the front fascia. I do like the rest of the refreshed Mustang though. No power updates however . My guess would be around 460 HP/425 TQ from revised Coyote 5.0L. I wonder if they did anything to shave off a few pounds of weight?

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Overall I like it, but the front end does look a little droopy.
The direct injection will take away from the ease of slapping a blower on them. But I predict the NA mods paired with the 10 speed auto will make for some really impressive NA track times. I'd like to do an NA build with one.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Id like to see one in person, i have mixed feelings on the front end from the pictures, I like the rear.
Itll be interesting to see what happens with modding them being that they have both direct injection and traditional fuel injection (which I think is probably largely to solve the issue of carbon buildup on the back of the valves) with all the ecoboost stuff and direct injection I guess theyll have no choice but to start making high performance versions if the injectors and pumps but it seems like those would be expensive as hell

Livernois released an upgraded high pressure fuel pump for the 3.5. It's the bargain price of $1600.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Oh wow, I didn't realize that it was direct injection and intake manifold port injection. That is awesome.
I saw that pump as well, for that money you can buy an auxiliary fuel system and have money left over. I saw a pretty slick throttle body spacer system with dual injectors for the focus ST. Tempted to get it so I can run pure e85.

I didn't like the front end changes at first, but I'm liking it more and more as I see it in different colors. Even though I liked the 3015-17, I've always thought the front seemed so blunt, like it was a sliced bread loaf lol.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Really liking the rear with the quad exhaust and spoiler. Definitely has me at least "thinking" about a new Mustang in the near future. First time that has happened in a while.
The exhaust option seems like a great idea.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Exterior changes are very minor and to the untrained eye, there seems to be very little difference from the 15-17 to 18. Not a fan of the new all-digital "dog-bone" dash either. New colors are interesting as are the new wheel /tire choices. Glad to see the 6 cylinder dropped from the lineup. It really served no purpose. I give Ford an "A" for effort to try an keep the Mustang fresh. I would like to see the Ecoboost making more horsepower.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
I agree ^ Seems like most who have really disliked the new look, didn't really care for the S550 styling in the first place.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
seeing pictures in other colors it looks better than I thought it would, I'll give it that.
I love the look of the GT350 version with the much more angular nose, make it much more aggressive looking. The rounded front is to satisfy euro pedestrian crash standards

I mean, you have to expect it trickle down but that was quick, especially when they just announced another year of production for it

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
I'm guessing 460 HP with the active exhaust, 12:1 compression and direct injection. Still gonna be slower than the Camaro because it's a dancing hippo.
I threw my Mach 1 on the scales and it weighed 3420 with almost full tank of gas. THAT seems heavy to me. 3800 LBS+ on the new GTs is crazy. |

Saw some pics of an Ingot Silver '18 convertible Mustang today and it actually looks better than the coupe with the new front fascia. Not sure if they went with a soft top or hard top though. Hard top would look better when it's up, but soft top would save some trunk space.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
I was guessing the next GT500 will have a cross plane crank 5.2 V8 with turbos or a supercharger.

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
Yeah, that's probably more likely that Ford will drop a turbo'd 5.2L V8 (cross plane crank) into GT500 to compete with Camaro ZL1 and new Challenger Demon. Hoping that Mach 1 will receive a naturally aspirated 5.2L V8 (cross plane crank) before everything is a hybrid or ecoboosted.

I like it just fine but think this Roush front end nails it for me!

GT500 = 725 hp (EcoBoost 5.2L V8 cross plane crank) GT350 = 540 hp (with expected power bump in 2018) Mach 1 = 500 hp (with similar TQ #'s to HP from N/A 5.2L cross plane crank) GT = 470 hp EcoBoost = 350 hp Mach 1 would be competitors with Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack

Re: Thoughts on 2018 Ford Mustang???
My favorite body kit for the S550 Mustang. I hope they can work some magic with the refreshed 2018 Mustang.

I think it is more likely the new GT500 will have a 5.8 based on the current 5.0, and if there is a new Mach1 it will likely be like the BOSS and have a tweaked 5.0, but I'd prefer an N/A 5.8.

I could think of a lot of things they could do with this engine

Well, if rumor proves to be true, then a "Demon slayer" may be on the horizon, and I doubt that gas guzzler tax is a worry, it'll be part of the ticket to ride.
