New #s Finally

My 1st attempt at the dyno a few weeks ago gave me problems . I made some custom length lines from my Zex Active Fuel Control box to my spray nozzle. At tip in , it would go way lean, so I called a few people I know, and we decided to make the nitrous line from the AFC longer than the fuel line.
With a tune flashed in with a Preditor, on muscle the car made 282.94 rwhp & 305.15 max torque. Ive had a drop of about 10 rwhp b/c I added 6% fuel from 2k to 4k. I wanted to make sure my next pull on spray would have a better tip in result ,so I can stay in it longer.
With the 150 hp jets in from NOS the car made 419.20 & 482.46 max torque .
Thats 137 more HP to the wheels off a 150 shot. Needless to say I was happy.
The A/F tip in was much better at around 15 but within 300 rpms would drop to 11.6 to 11.4.
Ill be going to the track on Thrusday to make a few passes.

Pete.

How does the A/F look at tip-in when you are off the spray. I would get that sorted out before you tune for the spray. 15:1 is kinda high.
Try changing the intake plenum scalar in your tune, changes how much fuel is dumped in at tip-in.

How much timing are you pulling while on the nitrous?

I agree the tip in still is higher than I would like it to be , but its only like that for a second . On the graph it goes from 14.8 to 12.0 , 11.6, 11.4 within a 300 rpm range. Its very quick.

Im using a Preditor Tuner, so all I am pulling is like 5% from 2k to 4k and 10% from 4k to 7k. Im also running 103 unleaded VP fuel to be safe.
Im sure by chipping the car and having a custom tune I could pick up more , especially clean up the tip in a bit better.

I just threw it on the dyno to have an Idea were we where at since I made the changes to the length of the nitrous lines.

Pete

You don't need to buy a chip, you just aneed a custom tune on the Pred.

Re: New #s Finally

WHat is the length of the line you are using. I have heard this line-shortening concept in several threads now and am wondering if it would be worth talking to Zex about to see if they can/will change their kits...???

I mounted my Zex AFC under the shaker, and made a 5" line from the fuel solinoid to the nozzle, and used the stock line supplied in the kit for the Nitrous solinoid.
Seems to work well with my current set up and jet sizing..

Pete

Ive tried to post pics before but for some reason it doesn't let me.

To be safe, you should pull the most timing right at activation to 4k. Cylinder pressures with nitrous at lower rpms will always be higher then at higher rpms. Since you are pulling 5% and I know the timing around 3500 is roughly 14 degrees, you are only pulling .7 degrees. You need to change it to 18% between 2-4, and leave the 10% from 4-7k. That will pull 2.5 degrees of timing at activation then approximately 2.5 throughout the rest of the rpms band.

Right now, I suspect your knock sensors are retarding timing at activation. The default retard rate is 1 deg per second when it detects knock. That means you could experience up to 2.5 seconds of detonation before the knock sensors will put the timing where it is after you reconfigure it as stated above.

Do you think with 103 unleaded its still detonating?
Ill pull more from 2k to 4k as you mentioned , but I haven't heard anying pinging.
I definately would try this with reg 91 or 93 octane.

Re: New #s Finally

103 octane is enough to run full timing advance on a 150 shot. I was referring to lowering the timing on 93 octane.

You are good with that octane rating and stay with it....

Re: New #s Finally

Phil, do you have any tip in lean AFR ratio problems??? I know my fuel pressure drops but that doesnt cause me to lean out. I think im going to pick up a 20 amp boost a pump and run it at 20 percent.

Thats what I thought, unfortunately out here in California we have 91 octane, not 93 like back in Miami.
