Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

My thought is not a random pocket at high temp but that when you jump on it you might introducing air into the system via a bad head gasket and then it gets stuck there until it clears. Although when my Lightning did that the temp kept going up up up, it didnt like hit 230 and stay there. Thats whats odd about the whole thing.

what do your IAT2s look like pre pull and post pull? Do those come up and come right back down like they should? If the whipple was throwing off that much heat Id think you'd have major IAT2 issues as well.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

IAT temps climb around 120 is but come back down. Mechanic called me tonight, after pump install he vacummed filled and for 5 days he would run a heat cycle then top off at crossover..he got to the point he didn't need to add any, said he got home and saw coolant leaking...no leaks for 5 days, he says it seems to be coming out the trans bellhousing, a drip with car not running, he is gonna pull a slight vacuum and see where it is coming from. I am thinking it must be somewhere high that once crossover full and no air in system, leak started, guess what I can't see driving is once system pressurized, it must leak...gonna check cooling mod (he said not from there), think there is a egr tube back there, or a freeze plug ( which why start leaking after 5 days??).Any thoughts on what could be leaking supposedly from drivers side and seemingly from trans bellhousing? Will update as I learn more.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

It would have be leaking at

1) a crossover tube o-ring and running down the back
2) do the terminators have that hard line coolant line that runs in the valley to the back of the block?
3) head cooling mod
4)possibly a freeze plug
5)where it goes into the heater core

egr tube doesnt have any coolant flow to/from it

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

Larry, I had the same issue in the very beginning, it was a freeze plug on the head, you can see if from the top, far rear of the engine. I will get you a pic.

See pic below; they are the two rear freeze plugs to look at; very hard to see with the intake on but you can see and replace them without removing the intake.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

We pressurized to 16 psi, it is a drip behind bellhousing right where shifter cable goes in the side, looks like trans has to come out, not sure what's behind the bellhousing once removed

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

Video above, supposedly it's not from the freeze plug in your pic Darell, Spec Stage 3+ slipped on first pass after Whipple install, maybe time for twin disc RST if trans comes out, will know more when I can see Sunday with my own eyes.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

The more pic I look at of a 4v term motor, doesn't look like there is ANY freeze plugs behiND bellhousing, seem to me only place for water drip is at LCD cooling mod hook up or that tube that goes from water pump under intake to heater hose, only thing I see even close to where the drip is, and that pic was at 16 psi so can't be that bad, not like a puddle.

Correct, there’s nothing behind the bellhousing to leak coolant

Not so fast DSG...ol Yeller sent pic of his Cobra motor on stand, there is a freeze plug almost dead center top behind flywheel

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

I guess what I am trying to figure out and Goggling isn't helping....can air get into system true a leaking freeze plug? Hell may have always leaked driving, but now with all new components and water pump leak showed up in the driveway sitting.I just can't wrap thoughts with a bad head gasket...wouldn't overheat period?? Hell in winter can run car all day and temp is at 160??? I can fill resvoir halfway, burp properly at crossover, drive car and next thing you know resvoir is full to the top..almost like air pocket pushing coolant out of motor into resvoir tank? Would a leaking freeze plug be able to let air into system like that?

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

unless the coolant level in the system was below the leak point in the freeze plug I have a hard time imagining how air would get in but I've been wrong before.

If you know you have a leak I'd start by fixing that. The pressure of the system is a big part in the boiling temp of the coolant, if you're losing pressure thats throwing **** all out of whack. I mean when I put my pressure tester on the overflow tank and start ramping up pressure you can see the fluid level in the tank go down and then come back up when you release it.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

I bought a new cap, yea to try and locate leak actually had guy pressurize system to watch where it was coming. Mechanic thinks I should just pull motor and do head gaskets and check freeze plug, but I disagree. If freeze plug leaking I can't use a pressure test to verify a head gasket leak, and the gas test was negative. I ask to do a compression check but dude said no need to......so I may go to another shop that does EXACTLY what I want and ask for compression test on drivers side. I have been doing alot of research and unless you do something realy, really stupid, HG on Term motors not known to be a problem blowing, only at 19 psi. My only other thought is head lifting at boost, but don't feel that. Show of hands on my plan : I am old school and pull motor from the top. I pull trans, check out freeze plug and replace, with bellhousing off can now see all the other lines with coolant and verify (heater line, coming off water pump, cooling mod, etc), change clutch and ride. I first would do a good Ford Iron block flush. I just can't wrap my head around pulling motor for POSSIBLE head gasket, it is what it is. As always, thanks Registry Gurus !!

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

I wouldnt pull the motor, Id drop the trans and replace the freeze plug. If it is leaking inside the bell housing getting coolant on the clutch might explain it slipping.

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

Yea I agree, good catch on the clutch slip, not like I am making monster power but I am at the edge of the Spec 3+ stats...might as well get twin disc and be done with it, head Ford mechanic gonna charge me $375 to pull trans and fix any coolant leak/issues so will start on that..thread will be asleep till then lol, thanks all for providing cheese with my whine

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

If the the disc has absorbed any amount of that stuff it’ll likely never hook right again Anyway.

With the dual disc make sure they have the adjustable pivot ball. How much adjustment it needs seems to depend on flywheel used as well as the dual disc setup. Remember the RST is NOT rated for track use

Agree, yea I got the RXT, adjustable pivot, pilot bearing and throw out bearing...got the Ford Iron block flush so that will be first on Monday, yea I heard that the RXT will come back, not RST. They sure are proud of that clutch though

Re: Radiator fan help..electrical aspect

Larry, you can do the compression test/leak down test yourself, it really is easy and a really good tool to have with boosted motors. Mine passed the gas test but failed the leak down test, most cylinders were 5-8% and two were 39%.

Before you go pulling the trans; jack up the car, remove the inspection cover on the trans and run a scope up there and look at the freeze plug; heck, look with it under pressure. Not sure why the heck a mechanic would not offer that; with a lift it is a matter of minutes. (another good tool to have). You can get them cheap on amazon these days.

I just fully yanked my motor out so if you need pics of anything let me know.
