Couple Of Questions

Hey guys, I have an 04 Marauder so we share the same engine and recently I've been getting involved and interested into what you fellas are doing to them. I know what the Marauder guys are doing, basically they all just go forced induction but I don't have that much $$$ so one step at a time N/A bolt ons are what I've been doing.

1) Why do you guys post specs of around 260 RWHP when are Marauders are doing around 245 RWHP? What did FoMoCo change?

2) I saw a picture of a breather on the passenger side valve cover, does that help anything specific?

So far I've done the K&N FIPK, 4.10 Gears, Diablosport Predator, and 255/55/18 KDW2 Rears to my MM. Is there a simple mod I missed below $400 besides U/D pullies and an intake spacer?

Re: Couple Of Questions

The 245 vs 260 hp average is probably the difference in exhaust and maybe the T.C. I believe the motors are basically the same as well as the Lincoln Aviator motor also.

Re: Couple Of Questions

Are the Mach's exhaust cams the same as the Merc's engine?

I've heard our cams described as "Truck Cams" and our T/C from the factory is around 2,200 per a ford tech. Atleast thats what I heard.

I have read that the Mach's DOHC uses the Navigator's intake cam and a new & unique exhaust cam. I would imagine that your Merc's engine would be the same, but I wasn't sure.

I don't know why FoMoCo would go out of their way to detune a perfectly good engine just because it is going in a larger vehicle?

Weird...

Who knows...

:OFFTOPIC:
Rider90, do you have any pics of your car you can post? We have some Mercury fans in here (there was a thread about a new Cougar a week or so ago) that might like to see our motor's other skin.

Re: Couple Of Questions

You could always do an electric water pump, quite a few guys on here have gone to them with decent gains

Yeah that is an idea on the list, but I'm getting mixed reviews about the U/D pullys

Re: Couple Of Questions

The marauder is dynoing lower becasue you are having to turn those big 18 inch back wheels. This translates into more drag. Think of the difference between an axle dyno(rarely used) and a wheel dyno. The axle dyno will always read higher because the engine is not having to spin the wheels.
Further info that supports my theory are the quarter mile times for the new naturally aspirated Saleen GT. Even though it has the usual engine mods and is rated at 325hp it is still slower in the 1/4 mile than a stock gt. 13.7 vs 13.5
Guess what? it has huge 20 inch rear wheels and bigger brakes which put more drag on the motor.

Re: Couple Of Questions

Not sure if I'm stating the obvious but are you comparing rwhp auto trans vs. auto trans?
