Back Pain / Issues

I was looking for any other members who have had back issues and what they tried to alleviate the pain.

About a year and half ago, I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my L5/S1. It happened after playing basketball and the next day, I couldn't stand straight or walk. I have been getting injections for the past year and that gives relief for about 1-3 months.

I've bought inversion tables, tried yoga, stretching, and nothing seems to work. It's not the type of pain that will drop you to your knees, it's just bothersome enough to interfere with your normal life. I'm only 37, but my profession (police officer) I'm sure doesn't help.

Any techniques, methods, or any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I will tell you the facts of my back pain. I injured my L5/S1 too. I had PT, Ultra Sound treatments and injections too. This was a on the job injury and the insurance company did not want to fix it. After 9 months of pain and bs i sued them. Two weeks later i had the back operation and it was fixed. No more problems since then, may be the same for you too.

Cool Re: Back Pain / Issues

Look for a doctor that has a spinal decompression machine works wonders on you without surgery!

Good luck,

LS

Depends on the person but..IMO..All those so called" treatments" are like going to a chiropractic doctor...you just keep going and going and going. The real solution is to fix the problem . This is important since this person is still young and can heal better now rather then when he gets older.

Re: Back Pain / Issues

When you have to relate numbers and letters to injuries, that don't sound good!

Re: Back Pain / Issues

I felt the same way about going to the chiro. He would do the adjustment, hook up the tens machine and I'm out the door. Doesn't really fix the problem, but I'm sure he likes my co-pay's. It just gets really frustrating sometimes. I'm not trying to get a medical retirement or anything like that. I like my job and just want to continue to live and work somewhat pain-free.

I've heard that most surgical procedures don't fix the problem. Even my back doctor is against back surgery...

Well ..it doesent hurt him any right? Get another doctor. I had to get 2 second opnions and one for me too. All were highly rated and said the same thing ..fix it. One of the top 5 doctors in the country at Duke Hospital fixed mine.BTW ..the last resort for the insurance company was a Tens machine that they gave me not to sue them !

Re: Back Pain / Issues

Went to the Chiro
ice on the back
and tylonol

The tylonol worked better than hydrocodien
I think opiats are not good for muscle or back pain since they
inflame the joints.
