Are you talking about the scoop, the stripe, or the paint itself?

From the description of what he said was happening it sounds like the scoop. Which definitely isn't a good thing...

You could conceivably get all of the wax off of the shaker with a small brush. Realistically, it would take a long time and you would probably get too frustrated to get all of it off. Bad idea to wax a porous rubber surface.

I use ArmorAll protectant on my stripes because it has a UV damage addative in it.

Nope don't use it on the strips or spoiler. It leaves an oily film. Its perfect for the shaker scoop. For the strips/spoiler use wax.

Re: Shaker hood help

Some trim products will turn it white. Oil based products will end up on your windshield after it rains.

Stoners makes a product for tires, that works great on the shaker, surround the shaker with cloth before you spray it, to keep it off your hood, after you spray it, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe/buff it off, it will last several weeks.

Re: Shaker hood help

The hood itself is turning white? I Would go buy a clay bar kit & clean off whatever you've got on the hood. (Wash & dry it 1st) Then put a coat of decent (Mothers, Meguiers etc...) wax on it.

Re: Shaker hood help

I was refering to the spoiler under the front bumper.Ive used it on the stripes and it makes it a deeper black and if you wipe it off good it shouldnt leave a oily base. BUT anyway ....

If you have white residue on the shaker or any of the black moldings or rubbers of the car you can remove it by using a pencil eraser. I use Staedtler's Mars Plastic and it works like a charm. Only place it doesn't work to well is on the honeycomb inserts used on the fake side scoops its too fat to get in the nooks and crannies.

STAEDTLER® Mars® plastic

You can find this stuff just about any store that has office supplies.

I just use tire shine on it everytime I wash it. Best may would be to unbolt and remove the shaker cause it leaves ugly oil marks on the paint if you over spray. Let it sit for like 10 min and then wipe the excess off. It shines real nice for like 2 weeks. and It only takes a couple min. but it totally worth it cause the shaker is what everyone looks at.

I wouldnt spray it on, spray it on a applicator pad like tire shine pads with the little handle then wipe on shaker.

Pig-spit FTW. Best stuff I've ever used in the engine compartment and shaker. Can be alittle hard to find though....

Re: Shaker hood help

im going to advocate "back to black". 6 bucks at any auto store and works great. goes through probably 10 washes and 2-3 months before needing to re-do it. of course, im ocd and want it to always look perfect, most people would prolly go 6+ months before doing it again.

--works great on the chin spoiler and windshield cowl.

Re: Shaker hood help

If it sees alot of weather and its really faded i would suggest just removing it (easy to do) scuffing it down with scotch brite, clean it good with some prep sol or maybe dawn at least and spray it with rustoleum flat black rattle can paint or equivalent.
