call me captain obvious but less fuel in the tank equals less effort.
you do want to be cautious with the fuel level and float as you take the unit out and put it back in. and NO SMOKING

Re: any tips or tricks to dropping a fuel tank?
just follow the shop manual and it'll be easy. i used a 1/4" tube to get the fuel out, couldn't get anything larger down there. it did the job real well and got all the fuel out of the tank. there are the old kind of plastic clips on the vent hoses that like to break, push them threw with a small screwdriver and the will come out easy. my girl shot some pics, i'll see if i can get them up alittle later.

oh... when i took the straps off and let the jack down the empty tank didn't drop. was stuck to the trunk floor by the insulation thats on the top of the tank.
