Re: oil on spark plug thread and blowing smoke

Oil on the threads sounds like the valve cover gasket is leaking, were the coil boots oil covered as well?

Re: oil on spark plug thread and blowing smoke

no oil on spark plug resistors, no oil in spark plug chamber, i'd say its on the piston side of the plug

May be time to do an engine compression check.

Re: oil on spark plug thread and blowing smoke

this just started last week, oil level seems to still be ok, compression check all cylinders 198-200 psi, 0% cylinder leakage in all cylinders. its just that second plug on the drivers side, theres oil around the electrode. all other plugs are perfect. it doesnt smoke all the time but always smells like oil is burning from the tailpipes, hard to explain but its def not normal. maybe i have a guide or stem valve seal problem?

I've got almost same problem, the threads on #8 plug (DS firewall) are black and oily, but nothing on the electrode or the COP. This has been this way since new, but I don't have smoke from tailpipes. How could anything get on the plug threads? There would have to be a leak between the valve cover and the head for oil to get on the threads, right? Wouldn't there be oil in the spark plug hole and on the COP?

Re: oil on spark plug thread and blowing smoke

Black smoke is fuel, blue smoke is oil, white smoke is coolant.

Re: oil on spark plug thread and blowing smoke

mine actually was blue smoke, i took the engine apart and had a bad piston ring, a little too much boost and heat, im also doing the cylinder head cooling mod which i really recommend for everyone to do because im pretty sure thats what did it. ended up doing forged pistons and rods. im actually installing the engine tomorrow.
