Short Throw Shifter

Thinking about putting a MGW short throw shifter in the Mach. Any thoughts on this brand? And, how difficult is the install? Any directions on this sight about how to install a shifter?

Very easy install. If you use the search feature you will find a butt load of threads.

Re: Short Throw Shifter

I've had mine for years and wouldn't hesitate to put one in again. If you have any mechanical abilities, the install is very straight forward.

Re: Short Throw Shifter

My brother got me an MGW for my birthday and it replaced my Tri-Ax and its a night and day difference. Shifts are incredibly short.

It took me an hour by myself working slow because it was hot and humid in my garage with a healing shoulder from surgery. Its pretty simple. I just got a shifter gasket instead of doing the RTV deal

Re: Short Throw Shifter

The 3650 (or T5, for that matter) shifter remove and install is a dish of ice cream. I wish the new cars were the same.

The stress-inducing stage of the job is prying up the plastic shifter surround and not breaking it. Everything else is zenlike.

The MGW has a great reputation here among the guys who have one. 2nd choice would be a Pro 5.0.

Re: Short Throw Shifter

that is a good brand to use and also truly easy to install one, the directions should work for what you need and make sure the shifter is for the 3650

This is absolutely true. A friend at work decided to get an MGW for his '04 Cobra after asking me what shifter I had. I tried out his supposedly "stock" shifter and it definitely felt like a stock shifter with the mile long throws. Turned out it was a Tri-Ax . What a crap shifter. He loves his MGW now.

That's what I want to know, how to remove the plastic bezel without breaking it.

I just grabbed mine and pulled on it. Took a bit of force but nothing unimaginable

That's about all it takes. I can't remember if you have to pull up and back, or just pull up. But, when you pull it, make sure you have all the clips.

I may be the exception here but I took our MGW shifter out casue it felt too notchy for me. I put in a Hurst shifter and it was smoother and felt better.

Most people really like the MGW shifters, but I would not install one again over a Hurst. my $.02

Re: Short Throw Shifter

A buddy of mine has an MGW in his GT. I don't care for it myself. Its a bit notchy and the throws are almost too short. Feels like a video game joy stick.

I have a PHP shifter on my T56. Not sure if its re-brand or what not but i love it. I assume the MGW would be similar on the T56 so i probably wouldn't bother with one but I've considered the Pro 5.0 and Steeda shifters. Never fondled either on a T56 though. The Pro 5.0 was great on the T5 car.

Re: Short Throw Shifter & new cable

not sure why someone would not like the steeda? it has 2 positions for the shifter handle one is closer to stock but very positive feel and the other is very short. the spring rates in the steeda IMHO are the best too, it lines 3rd up perfect, i dont even have to grab the ball just push forward and it hits 3rd. smooth operation as well...not knocking any other shifter just giving my $.02 on the steeda, have in the mach and driven a couple cobras (t-56) with em and liked em all.
