How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
I'm killing myself between two things...
Getting a T56 magnum and running it on my bolt on car...or taking that $3000 and putting it towards a Eaton swap. However if I did go this route I would be running the Eaton with the stock trans. I could and would under clutch it and go with an aluminum flywheel to take away as much drivetrain shock as possible. But how strong are these stock transmissions?

My mach is 410hp/ 373tq the stock tranny is holding up very well. I would suggest putting in a cheap clutch, so it starts slipping before any damage to the tranmission happens.

The 36 in tr-3650is the torque rating of the trans. so its rated to handle 360ft-lbs

I went with an eaton swap and did a built 3650 from Promotion Powertrain. Tranny was about $1700 with core.

Mine didn't last very long. I started losing third with just bolt-ons and then nitrous finished it off along with the clutch

472rwhp/432trq with no problems.
However, I only had this set for about 7k miles, then I switched to the T56 in pushing the numbers to ensure there would be no problems. |

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
I am having good luck so far with my 3650. it was rebuilt about 1500 miles ago and it has been living with 10psi of boost and 475/450 hp/tq for about 1250 of those miles. I know it isn't long term but it is taking the power pretty well so far. I have a T56 ready to drop in however since I really hate the 3650 4th-5th gear gap.

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
as stated, dont put a good clutch in it. Clutches are alot cheaper than trannys. Run the stock clutch or stock replacements until you can get a built tranny. You want the clutch to slip before it does damage to the tranny.

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
You'll be fine with the stock clutch as long as you don't beat on it. The stock clutch will start to slip before it tears up the transmission.

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
My 3rd gear syncros are finally going on the stocker. Wore out the stock clutch and half way through a df unit from completion clutches. I know guys have broken them but mine just won't die. 6000k rpm clutch drops on a all kinds of tires and track comditions. 450+ passes on the thing plus some very spirited street driving. 23k miles. Finally replacing it with a promo unit since the motor and tranny are out.
A bit less hp thought 365 or so rw |

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
Nitrous and missing a gear killed my second tranny . The first one died behind the stock motor bad shifting and plastic quadrant killed at 7600 miles. My recommendation is don't miss a shift and flush the fluid every year .

Re: How well will the stock transmission hold up to 420rwhp?
I hurt mine Sunday night. Been having problems hard shifting over 6500 RPM's with the crappy stock quadrant. I was on the highway and it didn't like the 3-4 shift I threw at it and bent a shift fork. I have a really hard time getting mine in and out of 5th gear now. I got a T56 for it and will probably have it swapped in this weekend.
