Boost sensor

Hi all,

I am in the process of installing the procharger to my Mach and just looking at where to put the boost sensor. Where exactly have you guys installed yours?

I read the brake boost line?

I have the aeroforce interceptor and sensor kit.

Thanks!

These cars don't have a vacuum line for the brakes. It's a hydroboost set up. I tapped into one of the vacuum lines behind the intake when I ran a boost gauge in my 01.

Re: Boost sensor

originally I ran mine behind the motor and over to the passenger side, used a plastic T into the existing vacuum line there. You'll also need a vacuum source for the bypass valve.

when I deleted the EGR i had it tapped and threaded and put a vacuum fitting in the egr plate

Re: Boost sensor

I know the vacuum hose your talking about that was installed with the bypass valve. We can't use that then?

That bypass valve was spliced into manifold vacuum line right?

Re: Boost sensor

On a random note if anyone has an idea,

what type of wire should I use to extend the harness? Any specific rating or size?

Re: Boost sensor

16 gauge wire should be fine and can handle up to 22 amps of current. Just make sure you use wire that is oil and gas resistant for anything under the hood.

Re: Boost sensor

Sorry to sound little stupid but is 16 gauges like 16 strands of cooper wire in one?

Something being over the other side of the pond in England I miss understand certain things, sorry!

Re: Boost sensor

Check out this link https://technick.net/guides/electronics/awg_to_metric/

The .5 mm wire would be equivalent to a 24 AWG gauge ire and therefore too thin. You would need to run a wire in the 1.3mm range.

Re: Boost sensor

You can get away with 18 awg or .82-1.0 mm wire as well. I wouldn't go any smaller.

Re: Boost sensor

I came across some 22 AWG wire.

I ask Aeroforce and they said 24 AWG minimum, so 22 will be fine.

You recon use that or go find some 18 AWG?

Thanks.

Re: Boost sensor

If Aeroforce says a minimum of 24 and you can get 22, you will be safe.

Re: Boost sensor

I hate how tiny their wires are, I wish they'd oversized them to like 18 just because.

Re: Boost sensor

Yeah the wire looks very small!

So I would use that not just for the signal, but for live and earth too I assume?

Re: Boost sensor

I wired the boost sensor up today.

Not had a chance to look at any readings yet (just showed 13.2 while engine was off?), but what kind of figures should I expect to see on it? I have the 8psi procharger setup, so it naive of me to think I should see readings up to 8 on the gauge?

A random one, I noticed the instruction talk about not letting the sensor have power when the gauge is not connected. If I were to remove the ODB2 for the gauges or say disconnect my battery, am I meant to unplug the sensor harness or remove the analog inputs from the back of the gauge first?

Re: Boost sensor

Did you enter the slope and intercept correctly? Key forward engine off should read 0 or very close to it then you can fine tune it. At redline at wot you should see 8-10psi @ 6800 with a 4" blower pulley.

With the boost add on what part # did you order? The instructions can be confusing. If you do have the style you're taking about you have to remove power to that add on before turning the key forward if you unplug the gauge

Re: Boost sensor

yeah I did, and I doubled checked. Did exactly what the instructions said.

Whether engine is on or off, it just flickers between 13.2 and 13.1. Took it for a drive and did the same!

Part number is #Sens004

Re: Boost sensor

Something's gotta be hooked up or set up wrong. I'd be willing to bet that matches your battery voltage within .3

Re: Boost sensor

It must be getting 5 volt power from the 5v reg.

Other than that is a chassis ground and connected to the gauge.
