Lightbulb What has TTSaleen been up to?

Hey guys it's been a while!
I think last time I was on here I still had my 2003 Mach 1 with the Eaton swap.
Well I sold that car in May 2015 and immediately purchased a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT.

Over the last few months, I've added a bunch of bolts on and went 12.30's at Fayetteville on it.
This past weekend I got a chance to run at Fayetteville again and this time went 11.50's @ 120mph since doing a cam swap!
Car is legit! My wife drives it daily and it is fast! LOL!

I also purchased a 2003 Cobra 10th Anniversary in November 2015.
So far I've added a few small things to it and with a pullied Eaton it made 460/480 on the dyno thru the cats.

Anyway, here's a few pics.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

man I was like someone must be missing TTSaleen, lol
I hate to say, but my vote is the Cobra,
That is very nice and moving G8, before I did anything to my 2013 GT, had a buddy that just did bolt on's to his, want to run mine to see how it compared, it was dead even the times we ran. still pretty quick.
Congrates on the times. I hope to see a 03/04 cobra in my garage one day, I for sure take a red one, that looks darn sharp.
btw it is good hearing what is going on with the other members that have not been on in a while.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

Thanks guys.
It's funny how the normal nature is to leave a site if you don't have that particular car anymore.
I haven't been on the saleen forums in a long time either! LOL.

In case there is any interest, here's a video of the mighty G8 from last weekend when I ran it at a private track rental.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJzaS2uiEzk

Enjoy.

Yeah that stock convertor is really holding me back. But I really didn't want to change it for my wife's daily driver.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

I had to remove my T56 to diagnose a broken release bearing retainer sleeve!!!

Time for a heavy duty upgrade and might as well do the 26 spline stuff at the same time! HAHA

Also figured out I had a RAM clutch installed by the previous owner.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

Here's an update on my pick-em-up truck.

Just got these installed yesterday. Size 305-45-22.
They replaced the same size in a Cooper Zeon XSTA brand.
The Coopers rode quiet but their tread wear was horrible. Lasted only 20k miles before down to the wear bars. Very disappointed.

So I came across the new G2 model from Nitto and it was available in my size.
Ride great and just as quiet as the Coopers I replaced.

I have Readylift 2" blocks on top of my front struts and I put a 3" block in the rear (replaced factory 2" block).

This tire seems to be the largest I can fit comfortably on it with the factory HD wheels and still have enough clearance.

LOL!!! I know right? What is wrong with me? Haha.
Funny thing is I used to have all black vehicles when I still had my TTSaleen.
I've owned this 2008 Lariat since 2010. Bought it with 40k miles on it and it just turned 91k. Been a great truck, but sadly the transmission went out at 67k miles! Put in a Ford reman and has been good to go ever since.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

You have some really nice rides. New tech sure is cool. 11.50's in a 4 door dd with all the ameneties. My 78 Malibu with all the ac stuff gutted, no back seat, and poly buckets has a 355 with aluminum heads, a pretty rowdy cam, a 4000 stall converter, and 4.30 gear and only runs low to mid 12's and would cost a mint in fuel to drive every day, with no luxury at all. lol.

Ha. Thanks.
Yes prior to owning so many Fords, I used to be a die-hard Chevy guy!
I owned quite a few Camaros including 1969, 1976, 1980, 1985, and 1986 Iroc-Z.
I did the same as you and had built 350 4 bolt mains, solid roller cams, huge ported heads, 750 Holley carb, 4.56 gears, and a Turbo 400 trans. Best I could ever go was mid 7's in the 1/8th and mid 11's in the 1/4 on slicks! LOL!
The new LS engines sure have come a long way from that older tech!

Don't get me wrong, I love mustangs, but I also love any car that is cool and fast! No matter the brand!

LOL,
sounds like the G8 and Cobra should have matched the truck then
the red looks so good on both those cars though

Me too, and I love old school muscle, but you can't deny how amazing it is to go that fast and still be so tame. Don't get me wrong though, the Malibu is raw, it is brutal, it is loud, and it is a cam swap away from being deep into the 11's on motor and well into the 10's on the bottle. It is a blast to drive and every time I pull over in it, it draws a crowd like I'm at a car show. It is also obnoxious, stinky, hot, and too loud inside to sit in for more than a short while. lol. As long as it is American and fast, I dig it. No offense to any import guys, just not my cup of tea.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

A few project updates.
I took the T56 to Bobby Brinkley to go thru it and make sure it's ready for what I have in store next. LOL.

Fastlane ordered my McLeod RST twin disc clutch kit, Ford pilot bushing and throwout bearing, and SPEC aluminum flywheel.
Melvin also helped me with a new rear seal installation.

I started the installation of the flywheel and clutch last night.
Got it all buttoned up with new ARP fasteners for the flywheel.
That RST clutch is badass! Super quality. I cannot wait to drive it!

So now the wait is on getting the T56 back and installed, then I move into the engine bay for next stage of mods.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

I also installed the head-cooling mod that allows water to flow from the back of the driver side head over to the passenger side to allow recirculation.
Fastlane got me the MMR kit and it is nice! My only complaint was MMR didn't include enough hose clamps, but that was easy to remedy at my local Auto zone. LOL.

Re: What has TTSaleen been up to?

For a line so difficult to get to, I might've used fuel injection hose clamps on that head cooling mod for peace of mind. Looks like a fun build!

MMR claims their lines don't need the clamps as the brass fittings have the tapered edges. However even when pushed on, I didn't feel comfortable not having a clamp on it. The clamps are added insurance.
I was/am more concerned about the rubber line.

I'd rather of used a line I built myself using some AN fittings, but figured if everyone else is using this kit as-is, then I'll go with it for now.
Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the *** later on. LOL

Fuel injection hose clamps don't have slits in them, which means it won't dig into the rubber. They also have beveled edges to prevent the same thing from happening.

No longer than you keep them, it probably won't matter. Lol
