Cooling Fan Broke
I am stuck up here in Alabama, far away from home, but at least I have tools with me...
Last night I felt a "thunk" and then the cooling fan started making all kinds of noise. I investigated this morning and it appears that the outer band on the fan itself has cracked and is allowing the fan to wobble to make a whole lot of noise. I am in a strange town, far from any trusted parts stores. Can anyone help me to figure out what is the exact part I need to order. Local Ford dealer said $400 for the entire fan and cooling shroud assembly. I would prefer to spend a little less then that, but not exactly sure if I can order jsut the fan or if you have to order the entire thing. Oh yeah, is OEM far superior in this area or can I just get the Dorman special at Advanced Auto Parts for $179??? Thanks in advance...

Re: Cooling Fan Broke
This is a common issue, I had mine break the same way and there was a recent thread about it.
Being out of town, you may be at the mercy of the local Ford dealer for a new fan assembly, but if it broke like mine did (see pic), you can probably limp it home with some creative duct taping and order one for WAY less from Birdman.

Re: Cooling Fan Broke
Found one at a Carquest 20 miles away. Everything stayed together till about half mile from the store. Then it let go for real. I limped to the store and bought the part for about $150. Next door there was a podiatrist office with a portico. Parked under there and swapped out the fan assembly and changed the fuse. Good to go. LOL

Re: Cooling Fan Broke
So what is the deal with these things? On my g/f's Mach she has now gone through 2 fans, both broke like this. And she has only had the car for maybe 2 years. The original fan broke at around 30,000 miles and I bought one from a local junk yard off a 2001 GT and it broke 3 months down the road.
Now I'm thinking about buying a brand new Ford one. Has Ford fixed whatever problem there is? Will a new one not break?
