New Intrerest
guys,
i might be in the market for a Competition Orange 2004 Mach 1; 5sp, low miles, close to stock as you can get....clean. wanted to see if anyone has something like this thinking about selling and what pricing i would be looking at... ive seen prices anywhere from $9,500-$28,500 so i wanted to nail down some real world prices that some might offer. what is a good expectation of price for something with less than 14,000 mi on it? i ask because i saw one with 110,000 mi on it and they were asking $24,000! other choices i have are a 2012 boss 302 Orange/Wht and the new 2021 Mach 1 which i think will be out of my price range if the $55-$60k is what they will be going for. PM me or just reply here. thanks, brian fyi, i will be heading to Carlisle July 31-Aug 1 so i might see you up there and we can talk. ill stop by the club tent! |

Re: New Intrerest
that kinda low mileage I would expect mid-high teens.
Personally I think anyone paying 20K+ for a mach has a couple screws missing along with the loose ones (with the exceptions being a basically zero mile wrapper car or balls out built car)

Completely agree with DSG! I keep looking in hopes that the right Mach may come along for me to get back in one, but people are asking Barrett Jackson prices for their Mach's. For the money some are asking I can just about get a newer GT making 150 more HP than the Mach so you REALLY must want a Mach if you are paying over say 17K (depending on the car).

Re: New Intrerest
For $10k you could get a Mach with 100K miles. The most you should pay is $17K with 10K or less miles. The prices higher than that are just dreaming because they were dumb enough to let their car sit in a garage for the last 15 years.

Re: New Intrerest
A year ago I bought a mint 150 mile DSG for 20k.
I’ve put a few thousand miles on it since. No issues. Dead stock It was exactly what I wanted and had been started up frequently. ....... To me it was well worth it. Particularly because it gave me the opportunity to sell a buddy my 90,000 mile black Mach. ....... Hope this information helps you figure out the market.

Re: New Intrerest
someone has a 2004 with only 70 miles listed for $28K
fairly close to me so travel would be easy but im not feeling the $28K, but what would be a fair asking price since KBB and NADA both list it for like $17K or under.... not much you can ask about a car with 70 miles on it.... practically brand new.... i guess i can just call and see what happens right? |

Re: New Intrerest
I guess my question is why?
Are you gonna put it in a bubble and hope it's worth something later in life or for your kids or something? I think I paid less than that out the door for my brand new car.

Re: New Intrerest
just seems like you'd rapidly destroy the premium you paid for it. If you're gonna drive it I wouldn't pay the sky high price on an ultra low mile car

Re: New Intrerest
I drive all my toys, they all get miles put on them, saving it for someone else doesn't make sense to me.

Re: New Intrerest
I'm pretty much like this. I definitely try not to drive in unsavory outdoor conditions, though. I do get sad when the miles pile up and I realize they aren't in "show car" condition anymore. In a perfect world...I'd just buy a new one when that time hits LOL.

Re: New Intrerest
Having an imperfect car can free you up in a way though if you let it. Sounds funny, but I enjoy looking at cars that have patina as much, if not more, than I do 'show cars'. The rough edges get my mind turning for some reason. Unless you're mr money bags, the more perfect a car is the less fun you tend to have with it. There seems to be a definite inverse relationship there.

Re: New Intrerest
The other day i got in my Mustang to drive to a meeting late in the evening...a cool 80 deg temp so I just put the windows down to enjoy the fresh air & to better hear the exhaust talk to me. The tranny shifted like silk through all the gears & it was a sheer pleasure to make make each shift precise & smooth...the car just seemed to want run and I could feel there was more power just waiting to be let loose! One of those perfect times & I got to thinking why worry about buying a new car this one was still so perfect to drive in every way!
I looked around & there was nothing wrong anywhere, no rattles no squeaks, I could not find a thing to detract from my enjoyment. I keep it sparkling clean as that really pleases me. The curves were a pleasure, the underpass I usually hit the throttle hard to hear the Magnapacks I just cruised through. No stress no worries... mental therapy at it's finest! Did I have a modern Mustang ? Not really, did the high miles bother me? Not a bit! Was this car fun? You bet! Was it uplifting that the young couple in the Audi commented ..."Beautiful car!" You bet it was! Did the low power compared to the new ones matter? Not in the slightest! If I did want more power there was always the 04 Mach 1 in the garage to drive next time! Oh, didn't I mention I was driving my hand me down 94 GT with 173,567 miles on it? Sorry 'bout that!

Re: New Intrerest
understand everything you all are saying. i can only drive so much at a time....work, kids, etc....so the other have low miles just because we take the kids most places and use our Escape or Edge for that....
but.... now i have been thrown a wrench in the mix.... my uncle just gave us his 1966 mustang. surprise! no clue he was doing that. he wants us to keep it for my son when he gets older. keep it in the family and pass it down. that now complicates the purchase of another car..... i got another mustang, just not the one(s) i was looking for to start.... |

Re: New Intrerest
it's a 15 year old Mustang...I can't imagine paying those prices. Maybe double digits for a really clean one, but for $20k I better be getting 3 of them. It takes very little effort, and far less money, to buy one for $6-8k and make it a really nice, clean, reliable daily driver. Even less effort and money if it is just gonna sit in the **** garage and only get driven a couple thousand miles a year. Better off spending $30k on a picture of a mustang to put in the garage and let someone else enjoy the actual car.

Re: New Intrerest
i understand what you are saying....
i have 5 cars, 2 suv's and 3 mustangs. the 2 mustangs i have had before the kids, but switching car seats on a daily basis is a pain in the a... and easier just to take the suv. i do have a booster seat that the boy sits in but i wouldnt call it the safest on the planet but it does get him in the back of the mustang.... once he is out we can travel more in the cars.... funny how things work....like i said i was seriously starting to look for a 2004 Mach 1 when i got the 66...and now that has taken me out of the game. my only real chance at getting one now lost..... i will have to see what next year holds, but i believe that i will need to replace an SUV at some point, but would really like to get the 2021 Mach 1, but would have to trade my 2015 GT to do it..... |

Re: New Intrerest
Just putting my 2cents in this. I could not see paying high dollar for a low mileage mach, why, well let me explain.
It is pretty simple, i'm going to be driving it and enjoying it. I've never understood leaving something parked and not enjoying it. I'm planning on searching for one and have started the search some. I have seen some in 20K mile mark for un $15K and I could see maybe bumping my budget up to that if I found the right one. If I found one with around 40K miles and they wanted $10k, I would then go for that one. It really depends on your budget. I also have always been worried about low mileage older rides, because of them just sitting there and not taking them out to exercise them. ASh

Re: New Intrerest
ash,
makes sense. having the car sit longer you don't know what has worn or leaked from not being used/sealed in the process. like i said i drive mine but it is limited with the kids around.... as they get older and interested in things it might be easier but still they are weekend toys when the time allows. if i find something in the $10k zone i can pay cash but then the money for the deposit on the new SUV later down the road is gone. so i have to look at that too. we already have car payments in our budget so its actually easier to keep that there and get a new car since we have the payments accounted for. heck its almost an adrenaline rush for me looking at the new Mach 1 and the Bronco/Bronco Sport and wondering what i can get/options to pick etc,.... my wife thinks im crazy. |
