SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I was researching on the SRT series of cars since I'm planning on a Challenger in 2008/9 when the mach is paid off -- anyways I read a post where a guy said that his SRT8 Charger was beaten by an LS1 Camaro SS. Another guy posted "a stock ss/ws6 will beat a SRT8"

I know the Chargers are really heavy cars, but being beaten by a Camaro means a Mach would take one stock for stock given equal drivers. I was kind of surprised by this since the Dodge has 425 horsepower and the 340hp RT I test drove seemed pretty damned fast inspite of being so big.

Anybody encountered an SRT8 Charger in the Mach?

Chris

I had one try to run with me on the interstate a few days ago. He wasnt even close. The Challenger is a sweet looking car,I may look into one when and if they come out.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I saw on some tv show that said the SRT-8 is a 13.3 car. I think a stock Mach with a good driver would be even or the Mach would edge it out.

Red face Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I think I can answer this question. A Charger is about .1-.2 quicker than my Magnum, and it ran 13.31@105 bone stock on its 2nd pass down the track.
I then installed Magnaflow mufflers and removed the resonators and it ran the 13.15@105 and 13.2@106. An automatic (vs auto SRT-8) Mach1 wouldnt have much of a chance. A 5 speed Mach better have an awesome driver to outrun an SRT-8. As for top end, the SRTs pull up to 170-172mph stock. The Mach would be left way behind.

The SRTs can disable the ESP up to 80% off. It will easily light up the tires like that. I have had good results with it. On a slippery track, I can still get 1.9 60' times. I beat an '03 Cobra like that. He was like...

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I raced a Magnum RT with a catback on the 1/8 track in Abilene and he pulled my by about 1 or 2 tenths. I was having traction issues though and missed 3rd so I coasted through the last couple hundred feet of the track.

There's the 425 horses. HP = top end.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I have seen about three run down the qtr at bradenton, and I have yet to witness one in person break the 13 second mark. I am sure there are some that are quicker then that, but that is what I have seen.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I saw a Deep Water Blue Challenger on the street the other day. I was very impressed with that color. Then the other day after getting gas while driving the Mach I was sitting at a stoplight when on the cross street in front of me a Silver Challenger dropped the hammer. I was'nt impressed. Seemed like it took forever for the hulk to get moving. Not sure if it was the 370HP version or the 425HP version. I don't street race but it would have been so tempting if I had been on that cross street in the next lane to him.

The new Challanger is a GREAT LOOKING TURD!
170-172 mph, how many miles does it take to reach that speed 1-2-3 miles? It sure aint 1/4 mile, I've seen them at the track and they are SLOOOOOOOW. I will say they look good going SLOOOOOOOW.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

Old thread, I know, but I just thought I'd post to show how relevant the Mach 1 is 16 years later....

Saturday night after a huge car show, a new Mustang GT and a new Charger SRT 6.4L Hemi were going at it so I figured I'd mix it up a little bit by jumping into the right lane. After several WOT runs, it appeared the new new GT had a very slight edge on the new Charger, however it was a very very close matchup. My Mach 1 would run fender to fender with them through the top of 2nd gear, then in 3rd they'd start to pull about a car on me.

At one point, the guy in the GT pulled up next to me at a red light and asked if my car was supercharged. Nope, just an O/R mid pipe and that's it!! He said, "That's bad ***!!"

16 years and 130,000 miles later, this car would still run with all the new stuff on the road if I just did a few bolt on mods and had a good dyno tune written for it. I love it!!!

My only problem with the car is that after a couple of WOT runs, 3rd gear starts locking me out. It's impossible to hit 3rd. I have no idea why it's doing that, but I need to fix it.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

Newer cars keep getting heavier so they need all that big power to make up for all the extra weight. When I first put the MACh on the scales after my fox bad I thought it was a lard ***, but by today's cars now it's the petite one.

That is true. I think the Charger is about 900 lb heavier than me.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

Just to add to the conversation:

My buddy has a newish 2017 SRT Charger 6.4 and took it to the drag strip the other night. Compare his numbers with the Mach's numbers, both cars bone stock minus the drag radials, Interestingly enough, both cars ran the same brand drag radials as well; ran at the same track just results that are 14 years apart.

Car ----- 60ft --- 1/8 time
Mach ---- 1.9 ---- 8.67
Charger - 1.9 ---- 8.2

Added a 100 shot and 4:10 gears, but I was on real street tires.
Mach ---- 1.67 --- 7.88
(before anyone calls me out on that time, I backed that up with 1.7s 4 times in a row that night, sometimes the track is that sticky.)

About the closest comparison I had.

Re: SRT8 Charger vs Mach stock for stock???

I had a 2007 Jeep SRT8 100% stock with the exception of a tune. Ran a PB of 13.04. Not bad for a 5,200 lb brick on run flat tires. Just about 100% garauntee it would get you out of the hole, but the question be could it get a big enough lead to hold you off in the traps.

Btw that was the 425/425 6.2 not the 475 6.4.
