New guy from Southwest KY.
What’s going on fellas? I recently purchased a Comp Orange Mach 1 about a month ago. I’m currently in the process of getting the engine out for a rebuild and also needs paint work. This my third Mustang and first New Edge; other two are a 07 GT and 08 Roush 427R.
Anyway the Mach 1 was abandoned at a friend’s shop and I had the opportunity to buy it. I’ve wanted a New Edge for a few years now. Since I missed the opportunity to buy my Buddy’s 2V and I’m still regret not getting it. After that I’ve looked at getting a New Edge. My budget could only afford a Bullitt. So after a deal fell through on a DHG Bullitt I pursed this Mach 1. After getting a title for it the owner of the shop called me and I bought the car for a very good price I think. Car has 33k miles and the interior is in fantastic shape. Here she is: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4888d23b56.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bad03e8ac1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1a4dff5e4d.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...997847295a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...372c75a70a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7d2d53a64e.jpg |

This is the current progress: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...48b459269d.jpg I haven’t had much time to work on it. My boss has been sick and I’m basically running the business (auto repair shop). But the goal is to have everything fix and done by spring. |

Lol, yup. I usually don't hang out much on SVTP though. The guys here are cool (and closer to my age LOL). There's a lot of Mach 1 info here.

Well fellas, figured I’d update the thread about the car. I haven’t worked on it in a while but I manage to pick up some 97 Cobra cams (47K miles) for a good price. I should be receiving them sometime next week. Once the engine is disassembled and sent to my machine shop; I’ll have the cams sent down for proper degreeing.

New guy from Southwest KY.
Manage to finally work on the car. Progress:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...390348a69a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b77a5bc7f3.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ef75c646e4.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9b3438d917.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...590ceb5e17.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2d5317affc.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...30435e34c5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1f46eba5ae.jpg Finally able to work on the engine today. As seen there’s metal debris on the cam mounts and cams themselves coming from the oil journals. After an inspection it doesn’t look like there’s an damage on the heads, valves, and pistons. But my machine shop will validate that once the engine is down there. The plan is to have the rotating assembly out of it next weekend. The following week I’ll have the engine and cobra cams down at the machine shop for inspection and repairs if needed. Cobra cams will also be properly degreed by them. Once the engine is down there I’ll start searching for a full intake system including the shaker system. I don’t have anything in front of the throttle body except what I’m assuming is the piece that channels in air to the filter housing. Anyone have a stock CAI system lying around that they don’t want? I sure could use it. And the saker system too. 👍🏻 Pick your poison. |

I might have a Mach set up in the garage. I'll have to check.

New guy from Southwest KY.
I’ve got a diagnosis on my engine. Now I have a question for you guys. The machine shop stated the car has a dished piston and when I was down there last week. I can confirm it has a dished piston, just a very slight dish. My question to those that would know, did our cars come with dished pistons from the factory? I was under the impression they were flat tops. I’m just trying to make sure it retains a stock bottom end. As this won’t be my hot rod, my Roush has that job. I want to make sure this thing is getting what came from the factory, as I know nothing about my car. Due to it being abandoned and I don’t know what they did to the engine internal wise, if they actually did anything to it. Thanks for any responses.

Re: New guy from Southwest KY.
Machs did not come with a dished piston. Terminators, however, did. Is the block aluminum or iron?

It’s aluminum. And after many articles read and reading builds of others, it seems that the stock pistons lean heavily towards a -3cc dish. But I’ll confirm it with Ford tomorrow.

Update:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...110003cc71.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0d0f374f8f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bb67b5809a.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...41557fe011.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6fc6cc2ed9.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...900568b240.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6b612b85fa.jpg Ok I was holding off on an update until I got a proper diagnosis, by my machine shop, of the damage. We saw 3 spun rod bearings while disassembling the engine. So crank was most likely done. After getting the engine down to the machine shop it turns out the damage was far worse than that. I figured there’d be some metal debris in the oil, proven right when there was debris on the cams. (See earlier photos) So one piston made contact with the head, and there was catastrophic oil contamination due to metal debris. Damage: 1 piston done, 1 rod done, crank done, the remaining 7 rods and pistons can be saved but will need to be reworked, cams done, lifters done, timing components done, etc. As my machine shop stated the engine was very close to being totally destroyed. The good news, Block is saved and fixed, along with the heads. And yes the head that was hit by the piston is repaired. After finding out the pistons are actually dished (-3cc) he finally found one after about a week of searching. Now the very bad news: the crank. He’s called nearly everyone going well into Florida and all the way to California. No one has one in F6TECE specs, and ever so conveniently Ford has discontinued said crank. So we’re searching for a used one, or I might have to bite the bullet and get my crank repaired. Or potentially getting an Eagle or Manley crank. We’re trying to get all my options on the table before deciding anything. There’s also some more good news (not sarcasm); I sent nearly all the engine down to the machine shop. The car was from the east coast and the saltwater air did a number on the bare aluminum.
