how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
How do I use the sct xcal3 to see why service engine soon is on? I have a custom tune that the guy did who dyno'd the car and I've been afraid to plug the sct in cause I don't wanna mess with the tune.

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
I know how you feel, I did the same thing after a year of my tuner using my SCT, scared me to death to even plug it in. Make sure you have key off, plug it in and scroll to menu that says Read DTC, hit select or whatever your is and it will tell you to turn key on but don't start the car..wait a moment and codes will come up, as well after a repair you can clear the codes as well with no issues with tune in the unit.

You have to go through several steps to do anything with loading a different tune or making any changes, you aren't likely to accidentally do anything

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
It said knick sensor, slow o2 , startup misfire, and cylinder misfire the engine sounds fine does this mean I have internal damage? I'm really worried now.

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
do you have a power adder on the car? If not I wouldnt be too worried. Depending on when you did them last I would start with plugs and possibly coils (did it say which cylinder?)
I would replace whichever O2 is being reported as slow (depending on mileage might wanna just do both)

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
I'm running a procharger d1sc and it said cylinder number 5. I have a huge fuel system and a local mechanic thinks it may be the plugs too (or coil packs) I cleared the light but when I start it they come back on and say misfire @ 1000 rpm. The local guy said try reseting the KAM which I did. It would have given me a warning if it was gonna erase the tune right? I'm only running 10 psi of boost but have 10:1 compression.

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
you did not erase the tune, it requires loading a new tune that you have to pick from a list and confirm thats what you wanna do then it takes a couple minutes to load the new tune.
I would put fresh plugs in it and see what # 5 looks like promptly

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
Will do. I won't drive it untill I do plugs and coils. (Fan switch melted during an inspection anyway)
The handheld said the misfire happened at 1000 rpm @ idle if I can't get new plugs by Thursday I have a graduation to attend is the car safe (it does run pretty rich) ? |

Looks like all I can afford after the build are the accel coil packs are those a decent product?

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
I did a super quick google search, arent those around $200 for a set of 8? I have seen mixed/poor results from everything but motorcraft
try Tasca Ford parts online or call AutoNation Ford (used to be Gene Evans Ford), 4355 Jonesboro Rd, Union City, GA 30291 (770) 674-6075 As for Rick in the parts department and ask for Mach1Registry member pricing on coil packs. I think you can get a set for not much more than the accel coils.

Re: how do I use my sct to find out why service engine is on
I just dont trust the aftermarket ones to fix your issue. Ive seen a lot of people have weak coils out of the box or go on the fritz shortly after install. Being that you can get stock coils for not that much more if you shop around the right places, go with stock ones

I ran the Accels. They're in a box on the shelf. The stock COPs are much better.
