Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

Really thinking of doing a Hydraulic clutch conversion on my 2003 DSG. Anyone else done this?
Whats the Best place to buy the kit and best Brand? Really curious to see the difference, after 7 years im tired of the stiff clutch feel doesnt even make it fun daily driving the car. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

Ive only every seen one brand that has a kit, cant remember if it was mcleod or not. I think there were fitment issues with the 4 valve cars. I dont recall seeing anyone using it successfully

if you the stiff clutch feel is the issue look into a dual disc clutch perhaps. That car would likely be over clutched but the pedal effort of my RXT is very low. They are quite expensive but to me it beats buying the hydraulic setup and fighting with it.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

A hydraulic clutch won't make it less stiff it will make it stiffer since the master cyl has a additional spring. I would suggest replacing the pressure plate with a weaker spring and add a more aggressive disk. The stiffness of the pedal is determi ed by the pp

Re: Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

I use the McLeod RXT, and the pedal effort is nice, but a high price to pay for a stock-style pedal feel. SPEC tends to be very stiff in my experience. OEM is probably your best bet.
I'm sure there are many other brands that would work that I don't have experience with.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

what clutch setup do you have? As mentioned Spec seems to be stiff, the exedy clutch I drove was a freaking nightmare

What are your mods? What are the future mods? I have a pro-motion clutch rated for 520rwhp. It's easier to push than the factory piece was and was under $200. Was a bit chattery at first but it's nice now. I would buy another if I had to.

I don't think a cammed Mach 1 warrants a thousand dollar clutch, but the mcleods are said to be nice. If you decide to go the twin disc route, I'd get the RST as it's supposed to be more street car friendly. I would give pro-motion a call and look into the one I have. If not, maybe a fidanza 2.1 with matching flywheel, which is real similar to the pro-motion.

Re: Hydraulic Clutch coversion!?!

the dual disc is a very pricey option and id suggest finding a car with one to try first if you were thinking about dropping that kinda coin. The only thing with the RST is if you ever track the car there is no warranty. I have zero complaints about the street manners of my RXT.

Promotion has a very good reputation and could probably give you advice if you called

I've heard that about the rst as well, but getting someone to warranty a clutch may not be an easy task either. Then again, I have no experience with mcleod or their customer service. They may be the best for all I know. Pro-motion, on the other hand, I do have experience with and they were very good to me when I called and let them help me pick the right one.
