Aftermarket Axels?
Hello Gang,
Having completed a motor build up I think its time to replace my factory Axels with a set of forged Steel units from Moser, Alloy, ?? A) Type - I see listed 28 and 31 spline, I've got an '03 Mach1 built in July, any idea which would be the factory replacement? B) Brand / Install - Any success or words of caution out there for Brands or Install process / issues? Thx Jeff |

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
If you go 31 spline you will need to replace the differential as well. I wouldnt mess with getting different 28 splines. Just wait and upgrade the entire thing w/ 31's and a new diff / gears etc. Strange also makes good axles from what I hear.

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
I installed the Moser 31 spline axles 10 years ago with no problems have many runs on them. Keep in mind if you go with 31 spline you have to change the posi unit to 31 spline. there are a lot of posi units out there now but the Cobra for about $349.00 or less will work OK, I 1st had a Detroit Locker which is one of the strongest but I didn't like all the noise with them. So I swapped it out for a Auburn no more noise and works well.

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
The ford racing 31 spline diff is only$220. I just built my rear last month with that and moser 31s.

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
Thanks, I'm behind on my keeping up with parts prices, I knew the Ford racing diff was reasonable that's why I said (or less) which I was sure it would be. I installed almost all my parts in 2004 except for the Alum drive shaft in 2010 just because I could. Thanks again. Bill

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
Not to take away from this post but I'm planning on going with 31 spline parts very soon as well and was wondering if I should (or could) keep the stock wheels studs or if upgrading them would be necessary. Eventually I'll probably be using 15x8's and a slick of some sort

Re: Aftermarket Axels?
Upgrade now while the thing is apart. Replacing wheel studs is a pain. You have to pull the axles Back out to do it. If your going to put slick on save your self the hassle with tech and put some 3" studs in.
