Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
I'm currently in the middle of a PCS move to my next duty station and having issues with the mach while traveling. The first day 10 hrs threw NC and TN there was no issue, ran like a top. we stopped to check into a hotel and when we came out to go for dinner the car would not hold its idle. The second i take my foot off the gas it dies like i turned the key of. This happens while cold and at running temps. Other than not holding a idle the car ran flawless for the next 10 stretch. i have limited diagnostic materials on hand, but need to get this thing running right asap.

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
Died as is no power at all? ie no lights acc etc? Or the engine dies and there is still battery and the starter still cranks?
Are there any mods on the car? First suspect for idle issues is always idle air control valve. ( assuming the car has power) two 8mm bolts and some carb cleaner to give it a little rehab. From there I move to checking connections. Cleaning maf ( no car or brake clean here, use electrical connection cleaner or maf cleaner, others are to harsh and carb cleaner will leave residue) Any engine light? |

there's still electric power and starts right back up, just the motor cuts out, of course taking the power steering and power breaks with it. also its throwing no codes.

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
So it's dying when you drop off the throttle and go to neutral when coming to a stop?
Start with iac valve |

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
You can use a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on then fuel line by the injectors to check fp.
There is no fuel pressure regulator only a fuel pressure sensor that reports to the fpdm. |

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
any idea what the psi should be? Nevermind. 32 at idle, 40 without vac. I'll check it in the morning, but will not be able to get a psi at idle

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
any autoparts store should have the 8mm socket and ratchet they can loan you to swap the IAC, I would start with that first. Anything else I can think of such as a vacuum leak should have caused it to throw a lean code while cruising.

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
i have the tools, just not my shop manuals. i was thinking iac, but it runs well while at speed, no loss of power. just wont run on its own. i need to find a way to check it.

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
the idle air valve only controls idle...when the TB is closed, the IAC kicks in, if the TB is open its not doing anything. Sometimes you can test it by taking it off and drowning it in Carb Cleaner (if its just gummed up that will make it run at least somewhat better but it doesnt seem to last), it can also break in other ways that it wont matter.
I would hope they would let you swap it in the parking lot and if it doesnt fix it return it

Re: Need urgent help with one more stalling issue
IAC was the issue. Took me almost a week to get the right part, but it runs and idles like a champ.
