Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

Where would I hook up an aftermarket temp sensor in my mach? I'm a lil confused where I can connect it without making the stock gauge unfunctional (like I did with my fox)

Also any links to an accurate oil pressure gauge? I'm sick of the stock dummy gauges, thanks

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

I used a spot in the block for my temp gauge around cylinders #7+8. For the oil pressure gauge I used the stock location.

Whichevers more accurate, and easiest to install. For the oil pressure gauge, I just t off of the stocker right?

How did you do this? Out of a freeze plug?

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

a search would reveal Phil's awesome thread on his install that will basically tell you and give pictures of where you can put the sensors

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

Autometer Part# 2275 allows you to put a mechanical water temp in the drain plug Scott is talking about. Works great on mine. =)

If you do a mech oil pressure, then you can remove the NPT plug that is below the stock electrical sensor (connected to the oil filter adapter) and use copper tubing with compression fittings

The drain plug on the back of the block? How's the clearance back there with the sensor and the firewall (as in is it hard to do with the motor still in the car)

And that thread was exactly what I needed to read, it cleared up a ton of questions I had. Now to find the adapter to run the oil pressure gauge so that it fits with the power steering junk in the way

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

For the oil pressure unit I tapped into the T off of the stocker where the oil filter and stock unit are. For the water temp unit I used the fill plug on top, underneathe the shaker.

did you buy a plug that fit in the crossover and allowed a sensor to be screwd in? or did you drill into the plug?

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

I bought a plug from Home Depot that was tapped 1/8 NPT, it was pretty inexpensive too.

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

I didn't tap it, it came like that from the store it was an adapter.

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

here is the mechanical oil pressure in the bottom of the oil filter adapter. the sensor in the front is the stock one.

here is the mechanical water temp. the brass piece is the adapter (part number i gave you). as you can see, it is just before the rubber inspection plug on the drive side.

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

if i remember correctly, the 1st brass piece is 1/4 NPT male to 1/8 NPT female, then 1/8 NPT male to 1/8 compression fitting with 1/8 copper tube. most of that should come in this kit

Autometer 3224 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-3224/

this is the gauge i have but you can decide on what color scheme you want
Autometer 4323 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4323/

metric adapter for water temp
Autometer 2275 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-2275/

again, what i have but feel free to pick your style
Autometer 4331 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4331/

Good god you're making this too easy, thank you! Did you just use an add a fuse and tap into the fuse for the radio?

Re: Aftermarket temp and oil pressure gauges

i'll take a pic tomorrow on the electrical connection.

i just got a fuse tap (with separate fuse) and put it in the fuse that controls the dimmer. the gauges have their own fuse but also dim with the dimmer switch. i think it's a 5A fuse... they don't need much current to light up
