Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
My 04 Mach still sports the original battery after 12.4 years. I have 80,000 miles and it turns the motor over like a new battery. No sweeping of the gauges yet or anything. I charge the battery before starting it in the spring and never touch it again until next year.
Of course now the battery will die because I'm daring it to. I'm also on the original clutch but I'm guessing that's not uncommon. No signs of chatter yet so which will need to be replaced first. |

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
Mine lasted 8 years. That's the longest any battery has lasted that I've had in a car. So I bought another Motorcraft. The battery that seems like junk to me is the Optima. Heard more than afew people say those only last 2-3 years.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
I've heard the same about Optima. I believe Russ purchased one for his Yellow Mach which was a nice color match but I believe it died early also.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
Think mine lasted 10 years.
Still have the original clutch, but it is laying on the garage floor. Does that count? |

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
My original finally gave up this Spring after 12 years. Once I got the new battery in there, I realized how slow my Mach had been cranking for the past several summers.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
I'm on my 3rd now, the original lasted less than 3 years and somehow left corrosion on the battery box when I pulled it. No signs of leaking but somehow it did some damage.
My 1st red top Optima lasted 6 months past the warranty of 3 years and my second one I have now has been going for near 7 years. I do use a Battery Minder designed for the Optima Batteries now, so I'm sure that is why it has lasted so long in the Florida heat.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
I still have the original 12 1/2 year old battery. 38,000 miles, and it still cranks over like new. The last few years, after being in storage for the winter, it would be drained and need to be charged by spring. However, last fall, I removed the negative cable before storing. This spring, it started right up. I assume the radio or computer must have a slight draw.
I will buy another just like it when it finally gives up the ghost.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
My 04 still has the original battery. I have 7850 miles on my car.
I bought this car year and a half ago in Ohio. I just knew the first summer here would kill it. Still going strong. I put a .9 amp charger on it about every 2 to 3 weeks if I don't get a chance to drive it. |

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
Mine was replaced in summer of 2011. Have an optima now. Had to go with a cheaper Parts store one in 2011, which made it 2 years. upgraded to the optima red top. Had to swap it out twice under warranty, latest one seems to be doing just fine. about a year old now...
Clutch was replaced only due to an unexpected throw-out bearing that destroyed itself at @ 65k...tore up the pressure plate fingers so i had to replace it then too. That was @ 2011 as well...

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
I have a 04 and had to replace it this spring...
Had a hard problem starting it in Feb (in storage w/ charger)...It would crank but didn't have enough juice to run the fuel pump. Weather warmed up and it started, but I didn't trust it any further...

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
The funny thing is, I have a post earlier in this thread about replacing mine in June after 12 years. Bought a Motorcraft and is lasted all of three months. Just had to replace it after it tested with a bad cell.

Re: Who still has the original battery in there Mach1
Original lasted 3 years. Second motorcraft lasted 9 years w/battery tender. New one last April. Time will tell on this one.
