opinions and advice

First car info:
stock block, 98 cobra cams, full exhaust and tuned
332rwhp/326rwtq
about 80k miles

plans:
I am piecing together a procharger kit. Looking at going with a P1SC on 8lbs of boost. Due to miles I want to get to about 420-425rwhp until I can build the motor. So far I have the 3 core procharger intercooler, mounting bracket, and powerpipe.
Plan on using piping from cxracing with the silicone hose and tclamps. Looking at picking up a set of 39lb injectors and cobra maf from a guy local to me.

Want to know your guys thoughts on the piping, inj, maf I have picked out.
Also suggestions on other fuel required items...pumps, bap, etc.
Anything else I need to think of:
coolant crossover tube
belt
blowoff valve

This is a budget build and geared towards 420-440rwhp max. The price I am paying for most of the parts I know I can re-coupe when it comes time to go bigger or eat some of the cost and not be out of much.

Re: opinions and advice

knowing youre gonna build it up later consider that a D1 upgrade is gonna cost ya 1500-1600 later

maf - id double check that its gonna be big enough, might need a maf extender but Im not sure

pumps the dual terminators should work, id consider a good pprv delete

if youre gonna run more than 10psi later its recommended to go with something bigger than the proflow valve (i have a proflow valve with hose to route from valve to intake elbow if you go that route...went big red race valve).

I plan on only running 8lbs of boost as long as my motor holds out. Hopefully atleast 2 years since I don't drive it much and the track is about 2 hours away. Figure it will take me that long to get the money to build the motor the way I want, unless this goes boom a lil too early. How much you want for that proflow shipped/pp to 31558?

Re: opinions and advice

I've been @ 9 psi for over 2 years with a 2800 maf, 60# injectors, focus pump and kbap. No problems at all. You should install a catch can/oil seperator with that many miles and a good tune. You should be fine.

Re: opinions and advice

You are just aching for a slew of opinions that may conflict.

Best to do your research based on what you read on this forum to determine what you need and what you can budget for. Read extensively and take notes. Sort and organize them, then bounce these off of your finanaces.

I read for eight to ten months to gain comprehension on what I wanted/needed to do. Learned what was and wasn't compatible on the various combinations. It worked very well.

If ur just goin w that amount of hp
Just run focus fuel pump, 39lb or 42lb inj run a mafia or switch lightin maf w mafia
I think u will be fine w that many miles
Good tuner n tune, don't waste money, go to a good one
Catch can for sure
8lbs of boost w a streetable tune should be fine on ur motor, just understand anything can happen

So far I have picked up the 3 core procharger race intercooler, proflow bypass valve, powerpipe, bracket, walbro 255lph fuel pump, waiting to hear back on some 39lb injectors with cobra maf. Kit is coming along pretty good. Will be ordering my piping within the next week or so. Then just have to find a headunit w/pulley and belt. Will be getting tuned by Tony Gonyon of Tunersinc in jacksonville fl.

Re: opinions and advice

I used 39 lb injectors, Cobra pumps, and a Lightning 90mm MAF to support a Vortech at 10-11 psi. Had some light scuffing at top of cylinders on recent teardown. Could have been ring butting, as the stock gap on the upper ring is 0.014" or so. That is too tight for much boost. But I think you'll be OK with 8 psi, intercooler, and a good tune.

By the way, I had no luck at all running a single pump, even with a wiring and FPDM upgrade. I datalogged the duty cycle and the pump was maxed at 4,000 rpm, and 4,500 with the FPDM.

Re: opinions and advice

That powerpipe might increase inlet air flow and put you over 8 psi, no?

Interesting rcodemach1, I had a local tuner say the same thing about the single pump not being able to handle the duty cycles.....regardless of BAP being installed.

I've had plenty of fuel with my single Focus Racing fuel pump and a KB BAP. See my mods...

Re: opinions and advice

If there was a poll, I'd say more folks have been OK than not. That's why I tried too, but it didn't work out for me.

In the past I ran a BAP on a 2000 GT with a stock pump and it made it to a bit under 400 hp (Vortech also), but that had to be on the edge.

I would say when running a single pump to to do some careful datalogging to make absolutely sure you are good.

Shakerr: Sweet setup, by the way. Lots of torque for that HP. How is the MAFia working for you? And are you pulling some of timing above the torque peak to keep the HP down a little?

I had it tuned by Jay from SCT. My tuner asked him in for a special TUNER DAY event for our mustang club. I told him I wanted a conservative tune due to the stock bottom end. It runs strong and is very reliable. I did all the performance work myself but as far as how it's tuned, I have no idea! I left that up to the expert.
