Re: New build

I have a TON of more work to do and I usually only get free time once or twice a week for a few hours at a time. SO THIS will take some time BUT it will be bad-a$$ once it is done.

Re: New build

I'm incredibly familiar with that schedule unfortunately

It also means any hiccups in incorrect/missing/broken parts can cause extremely long delays

Re: New build

little more progress...so I finished my tack welds on right apron and lower frame rail cover. FOR all the non welders...this is actually a easy project IF you have the time and patience. Easy tack welds are simple quick bursts...then grind the high spots down.
Once everything was ground down I put a SMALL thin layer of fiber-smart filler. (fiberglass) over the spots and filled in voids. I let set up for about 10 minutes and then grabbed 80 grit and started knocking it down. THIS stuff turns HARD as a rock quickly and if you wait on it you will be sanding for days.
I still have 3m filler to go over that and then fine glaze coat before priming entire thing. (long way to go for now)

anyways...couple pics of progress...i will post more pics of the process I am using as i go along too. This may differ from others but I feel this will give the perfect smooth look I am going for.

Re: New build

little more this morning..left side and filling in holes too....
HINT for novice welders...copper plate with magnets work great for filling larger holes. sit behind hole and weld shut. Mig weld wont stick to copper and makes sealing larger holes a breeze.

I know a LOT of guys posting pics of this before and after....I wanted to kinda show the process along the way and really what goes into doing this. I enjoy the work actually but it is messy and very time consuming. I plan on coating the entire engine bay...seal everything and plus paint the inner aprons as well. This will IMO look the best and have that show car feel.

Looks great; I have a copper plate but minus the magnets, now off to a new search... thanks.

Re: New build

another update...spent about 6 hours this weekend on passenger side smoothing out a lot of high spots and...I used 120 grit but will have to go to 320 the whole area before I use poly spray primer.
Will start on drivers side this week and started pulling dash and harness.
