Re: New Project "R" thread

Did some messing around with the motor yesterday and today.
Installed a Mach 1 Accufab TB on it, took her for a little spin.
(I set the TP at .991 volts)
Much better overall performance,
and throttle response was better than ever.
Just for shiites and giggles,
added 2 degrees global timing to the VMP tune currently in the car.
All I can say is WOW!
This is definitely the best it has ever run with the stock motor in it.
Needle sharp response and the torque is un - be - lieve - able.
I wish more people thought this way....................
God this car is going to be fun.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Thanks.
I am pretty happy how it has turned out so far.
It was all built with OE Mach 1 wiring and accessories.
Imagine the motor with an Al Papitto built high torque 11:1 motor in it!
That's what it's getting.
As much as I love my Mach 1, I have to sell it to finish "R".
I wish you had more time to take the wife for a ride,
it was good meeting you, your wife and your young hot rodder!

Re: New Project "R" thread

what would you suspect it would dyno on the stock motor?

i'm going 5.4 4v in my Lightning and just curious what n/a numbers it could produce. my setup will have more compression than stock. forged w/ flattops and i might have the heads milled a bit since navi heads are like the grand canyon of combustion chambers.

When I had the car at Steeda, one of the techs there (Does dyno work)
drove the car and felt it had around 330-340 RWHP as it is now.
Combustion chambers have the same cc's as mach 1/Cobra heads from what I recall.
The best way to raise compression on the 5.4 32V
is to get pistons with offset pins,
as the stock setup has the pistons .120 in the hole.
A stock Navi already has flat tops and comes in at 9.65:1 CR.
Depending on the intake, etc. you choose,
it is fairly easy to make 400 RWHP with this motor.

Re: New Project "R" thread

I spoke with him last week.
Until my Mach 1 sells, I will not be in any hurry.
Block is done, heads are ported, rods and pistons are there.

i thought the navi's had bigger combsution chambers? hm.
EDIT: consulted my trusty mod motor info database. they're actually smaller than the 03/04 4.6 units. nice.

intake will be a sullivan setup(i'll be going turbo later on) and the exhaust should be Kooks longtubes. since i'll be boosting later, i'm planning on leaving the heads alone(except for valvetrain upgrades) and running some combo of stock cams(navi/cobra-still gotta research that) or maybe ford GT cams.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Okay, since it is winter in Chicago and my car has put away since end of september, I get car starvation. Been 6 days since last post. If there are no updates. What are the exhaust modifications necessary to make it work. Possible for long tubes to fit with minor adjustments? I looked thought your photobucket and saw a few exhaust pics.

post 800 of thread!!!

Re: New Project "R" thread

Choices are:
Modded LT's
Slightly modded stock manifolds/H pipe
Shorty headers/modded H pipe
Hope to have some Torch Red hot news before New Year's.
Pretty much at a standstill until my Mach 1 gets sold.

Re: New Project "R" thread

Waiting until after the new year to disassemble the car.
Trying to coordinate everything with Al for the motor.
Still selling the Mach 1 also, which would speed things up.
Although I love the Mach 1,
I drove "R" down the street the other day,
and the torque of the 5.4 is intoxicating.

Re: New Project "R" thread

I got my 5.4 DOHC installed in my 98 GT, and took it to the dyno shop last week. Numbers were very poor. only got 315hp and 281ft-lbs, i guess the low compression of around 9.5:1 and the sullivan intake and turbo grind cams for a Phase II dont help... I'm rather disappointed in its performance. Emailed Boss330 and asked for some wisdom... he wants me to check compression and get back with him.. I'll do that monday.

Re: New Project "R" thread

The intake killed it, along with the cams.
A completely stock Navi motor is rated at 300 HP and 355 torque at the flywheel.
I keep trying to tell people about the Aussie Boss intake.
It's da bomb!
One M1R member here took mine for a spin.
It is the only time we have ever met.
His review is here:

Power isn't free, nor is it cheap.
Hope you get it all figured out.
Your car does sound good!
