Car won't start, need opinions.

I've had it sitting jacked up in the garage for a few weeks while I've been slowly fixing the differential. It ran fine when I pulled it into the garage, but after finishing and lowering it back down it just cranks with the occasional semi-start then dies. I checked all the spark plugs which looked fine, so I'm leaning towards some kind of fuel issue. The rear was jacked up for about 3 weeks or so, so I'm wondering if that had something to do with it. The gauges also sweep all the way over and back when it's cranking which I think is weird.

Try to verify that you actually have fuel pressure:

Have you got fuel pressure at the schrader valve by the injectors? Does the fuel pump cycle on when you turn the ignition switch to run (not start)? You should be able to hear it when its running. Should run for a few seconds then stop once pressure is achieved.

sweeping guages usually mean the battery is dead .....Did the inertia switch in the trunk get presses for some reason?

Re: Car won't start, need opinions.

i went out and got a new fuel filter just to see if that made a difference. Now it'll initially start, then it starts puttering and dies. also throws a p0190 code saying fuel rail pressure sensor error, so I'm guessing it's either a bad sensor, or bad fuel pump. gonna go out and rent a fuel pressure tester and see what happens.

Agree with Nasty, gauge sweep means battery.

hooked it up to a battery charger for the mean time which fixed that problem, but it still putters and dies after startup. gonna go and check the fuel pressure next. also checked the inertia switch and the little red button is all the way down.

Cool Re: Car won't start, need opinions.

Good to hear your back up and running. I had my fuel pump controller take a dump and it would run then it would not run I am glad it had a SES code.
