Firewall adj.

I was just thinking, instead of buying the OEM cable right now and also the quadrant, couldn't I just buy the firewall adj and use it if the cable is just needing to be a little tighter to get it adj right?
OR
at least do the quadrant and Firewall adj

Ya'll thoughts?

Re: Firewall adj.

The factory quadrant should tighten the cable as it stretches. Have you tried pulling up on the pedal?

You know I'm running the steeda stuff and like it, but whatever you get make sure the fwa has a click lock mechanism. You don't want to mess with a set screw.

No I haven't tried that, but will next time out in the car.
yes I want a locking mechanism for sure. I used Steeda before, but was checking out other brands, UPR has one, a double lock one and MM seems to have a good one.

Re: Firewall adj.

Well just placed my order for
-Steeda Quadrant
-UPR Quick Click Firewall Cable Adjuster

I'll try these first and just see if that fixes the problem, if not, then i'll be getting a new OEM cable to replace.

Re: Firewall adj.

Honestly, I think the problem is the 3rd gear lock out, it does fine at lower rpms, but as the sticky that is posted about this problem, needing a quadrant and FWA.
I was going to go with both Steeda items, but i saw good reviews about the UPR one I got and figure I would go ahead and try it over the Steeda FWA.
Honestly, if they both work the same, why pay more money.
I've used UPR stuff before and have been happy with it.

Re: Firewall adj.

So, I wanted to update this, I have the parts in now.
One thing I notice is where I was shifting at, the 2nd to 3rd is almost straight up, for some reason I guess i'm a little rusty, because it has been a while since shifting hard for me, but I honestly think now it is that I was pushing over and catching the wall between 3rd and 5th gear and needed to be a little more to the left so it slides right in 3rd gear. Again, I dont know if this is for sure, but it has gotten me thinking that is my problem.
With that being said, i'm still going to put on the Steeda quadrant and UPR FWA. Although I think the problem is me and just guess need some more getting back in the groove of shifting hard, I still want to add the parts, because if it isn't just me, then it will be this.

Re: Firewall adj.

I can't even remember the brand of adjuster I have now. It has the click lock. I love it. I have a jam nut one first on my older mustang and hated it. It would get jammed or burn my hand trying to adjust it when the car was hot

I think there are a few different ones out there that are the click lock from what I was seeing.
I had the steeda one on my 2004, but went with UPR this time, it has the click lock.

Re: Firewall adj.

Alright, after my hands got messed up (seems to always happen after working on cars) I got the Steeda quadrant and UPR FWA installed, I did not get to tweak it much after the install, but did adj and does go into gear smoothly, but it is midnight here and I'll mess with it tomorrow. I am just happy they are on there and after it is adj right, shouldn't have any problems with 3rd gear.

Re: Firewall adj.

How is the 2->3 shift feeling with the new clutch setup? I've never used a Tri-ax before so I don't have any reference there. Does it have a stronger or weaker center return spring than stock? Usually if you are getting locked out of gear on a shift you can feel/hear it. Missing the gate and whacking into the post of the H pattern feels different.

I had a lot of trouble on my T56 when I put on a short throw because the left right movement was so vastly reduced. My centering spring was very strong and I was missing the shift because of the short travel and extra spring assist. I changed the way I shift and now I don't miss shifts because of the H pattern anymore.

If you never heard the syncros wind up or felt anything terrible in the shifter handle, you are probably hitting the post on the H. Then again if you don't have the problem after putting all the adjustable stuff in, you solved the problem.

Yes it is shifting just fine now after adding the two parts on. I've only had steeda short throws so that is the only thing I know, lol. This one came with it, but now it is good and smooth.
