Original battery?

I still have mine in car and have always used a maintainer on it but seeing's how the car was built in late 02 was thinking about changing it. Would hate to get stranded somewhere. What everybodys thoughts keep it and see how long it lasts or change it?

If you're not worried about it being original I would swap it out. A battery can fail from one moment to the next. If your car is a manual you may be able to push start it but why go through the trouble.

Re: Original battery?

Mine is either original or an exact Motocraft replacement. It looks like no wrench marks and the padding is perfect around the battery.Either way it started right up in the 10 degree F weather we recently had. I am pretty sure my car was a garage queen and not thrashed hard by the previous owner. I don't show mine so when it croaks I will shop around for a battery. My 04 V6 battery lasted exactly 2 years

Re: Original battery?

I just replaced my original battery in my 02 f150 about 2 months ago
I bought this truck in dec of 01. always keep it on a trickle charger when not driving for a while. it has 95k miles now. battery was still good but turned over real slow when starting so was scared it was going to leave me walking.

Re: Original battery?

Wow, I got 5 years out of mine and I am on year 5 of my Optima. I guess those maintainers are worth the money. Good thing, I just purchased an Optima one.

Re: Original battery?

10 years is pushing it on an original battery. Although, I got 9 years out of my last one. The "eye" started staying yellow instead of green for a few weeks, and then it stranded me at work with no warning. I do show my Mach so I purchased a Motorcraft battery from Ford to keep an original look.

Re: Original battery?

I have changed the battery once since 03 (about 4 years ago- just went dead one day). I got one from Advance but I took the time to take all the stickers off and clean glue residue so it is just a plain black box!! (Would like to move to trunk some day-does it REALLY make a difference doing that at strip??-opps, , sorry).

Re: Original battery?

I would say your battery is borrowed time! My original battery from 03 finally went bad this year.

Yeah,, I agree,

So are my tires.. They are not dry rotted or anything. But I hear horror stories,.

I only have 5,500 miles on the car

Re: Original battery?

I'm still running the original battery. Didn't have it on a tender all winter, started right up 5 months later. No issues whatsoever

Re: Original battery?

Just changed my battery after 10 years with a Motorcraft exact replacement never on a battery tender or disconnected. I still have the original tires, but have extra rims with Nitto NTO5R for the rear, I keep the Mach 1 in the garage sitting on 4 strips of thick carpet to keep tires from dry rotting.p

Re: Original battery?

The original battery in my car is exactly 11 years old this month. I promised myself I wouldn't replace it till I had to jumpstart… I'm getting a new battery next week. It's never had a battery tender on it and she has 69,000 miles on it. **** good battery!

Re: Original battery?

Everyone who just posted saying they still have the original battery knows what's going to happen now. I'm not going to say that my battery is original and just over 10 years old and that no trickle charger was ever used on it for fear of it dying tomorrow.

Re: Original battery?

Mine finally went last June. I was going to go back with the Ford but I was headed on a trip and the dealers didnt have one. So, I got an Advance one for now. Found out recently that O'reilys sells them too.

Yeah, after 6 years, I saw the dash gauges do a sweep all the way to peak and come back down at start-up. Thought WOW, that was weird. Had it checked, and one cell was going bad. Like you I went to O'Reilys, because I wanted another Motorcraft Battery. Hope I get an early warning like the Original one gave me. Thought that was cool.

I would have liked to see how much longer it would have went but after 10 years with no maintenance "ever" it didn't owe me anything.

Re: Original battery?

My 2003 has the original battery and it's still going strong. I just replaced the original tires last fall. I drove this car off of the lot brand new in 2003 with 7 miles on the odometer.
