Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I was going to do the Toyo T1R's again but they don't come in the right size!!!

I'm going with 275/40 17's and have almost settled on Falken RT615's.

Anyone have a better suggestion of equal quality. They need to have good wet performance, tread wear of 200 ish, and great handling. I can get the Falkens for $126 per tire.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I have the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals in that size, and love them. Good in dry and wet, good handling and not super expensive.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

For inexpensive, I think those are about as good as you will get, though looking through reviews, they seem to be poorly reviewed by some but loved by others. They do look to be a good tire though, let me know how you like them if you get them...I need a new set for the rear...I seem to have chewed through a set of BFG's really fast...

+1 on the Firestones...they make a good tire.

Will do!

It's not looking good because my normal tire guy seems too busy to call me back for the last 3 days.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I just put the RT615s on my car a few weeks ago. Don't have much to say yet, I did already run an open track on them, but I didn't run very hard at all due to front end alignment issues. I need to work on street pressure still, but right now straight line is a notch below the GS-D3s I ran before. That's based simply on the 1-2 shift, where I now spin the tires noticeably more than before. Not surprising considering the stiffer sidewalls.

Personally I'd probably choose a different tire if you don't road race or autocross, considering the low tread wear and probably lower than average wet traction. But if you want a good handling street tire, for the price it's hard not to go with it... Especially for 126... How can you get them for that price?

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I don't seem to be able to get the Falkens in a timely manner here.

When I stopped into a new shop in town he had some brand new Riken Raptors in the right size that somebody ordered but never picked up. He made me a sweet deal then we noticed one was pinched in the rack it was stored on. He will have a replacement for it next week.

Bonus, this guy wants to be a sponsor for my clubs carshow in 08.

These have a tread pattern much like the Toyo T1R and I drove a 96 Cobra that had them and they seem fine. Tread wear is 300 so they won't be ultra sticky.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I had to work later than I thought today so I didn't get to pull the car out of the garage. I took a few pics after I got back from looking at a 99GT I heard about.

I forgot to carry the camera but I should get some shots at our cruise in tomorrow nite. Silver 99GT with 18in FR500's with deep dish in the rear, late model cobra interior, full suspension, and this funny sounding engine. V10 with a single turbo that is set up kind of like the Hellion. I talked to the owner for a few minutes and he has been in the area for a few weeks for "Army training". He's from AZ originally and the car was built in the Bixby area.

I will get some better pics of my new wheels tomorrow too.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

Dang it, the guy with the V10 stood us up tonight at the cruise in. The weather was fantastic, all you needed was a windbreaker and the turn out was not bad for a post season event.

I didn't take that many pics because I was saving battery power for the V10 pics.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I expected the ride to be better with the 17 inchers and it was, I'm pleased with the Riken tires up front. The DR's on the back need to come off soon for more normal tires on the back.

You just don't see too many TR Mach1's with these wheels.

More pics

Some love the wheels and others hate them ------- no middle ground so far.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

I think it looks very good.

Also I think I saw a red V6 with them today, or a very similar wheel.

Strange you should say that, we have a very tastefully done Mineral Grey V6 (2002 I think) that has a flat black wing, chin spoiler, 03 Cobra hood, and Mach1 wheels. Well yesterday I see the car again and you will never guess what kinda wheels they have on it now.

I can't seem to stay unique.

Re: Tires for my 17x9 10A Cobra wheels

Personally, I don't like those wheels on a Mach1. They're a little too Rice for me... or something. I like more traditional muscle car look wheels.

I love the car though.... that red looks great!!!

I see your plate is similar to mine....

I really liked the look on my 03 Cobra and just like being different.

Hahahahahaha, if you look real close you will see my Shakrrr tag is expired. I'm just leaving it on until my NEW one gets here. I decided to go with something different there too.

I hear ya --------- the 10th Anniversary Cobra's came with fortune cookies too.

A guy who worked installing the replacement engine at the dealership bought the Cobra from me. I think the car was only jinxed for me ------- he has not had the first issue with it. I'm happier with the Mach1 anyway.

Just got the FR500's and Toyo T1R's on the TT'd GT. When we get the new tranny in the GT I'll get some better pics.

Nothing wrong with the 10A Cobra wheels, especially on a DSG Mach!
