First Ticket

So I have two questions for the more experienced drivers. Let me start off by saying I'm 18, and this is my first time being pulled over and getting a ticket. Anyways I was driving like normal on my way to the gym. Just took my pre-work out. When I do it makes me a bit agitated lol. So I had a kid behind me riding my rear the whole time. He decided to go around the corner with me. This making my blood pressure rise. Made me speed up in 3rd gear. By the time I new it I was doing 63 in a 35. And it just so happened to have a cop right in front of me. He pulled me over because I had the flashy car blah blah. Probably didn't even think twice about the air head matching my speed behind me 3 inches from my bumper. He gave me a ticket telling me that I have a court date on June 9th. Any ideas how much my ticket will be? I live in Ohio if that helps.

Also for my second question whats a good affordable radar detector going to run me? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

PS,Being really pissed at the gym helps a lot.....

Re: First Ticket

You played right into that guy's head games. You did exactly what he wanted you to do. The cost probably depends on the state and what the judge decides to slam you with.

In over 30 years of driving, I've never used a radar detector in my life. All that annoying bleeps, buzzes and crap. I drive over the speed limit on a daily basis (sometimes, far, far, far over) and if I ever get busted, I'm prepared to take my punishment. It's just goes along with owning cars like these.

Re: First Ticket

1. Get a new pre-workout; I use MusclePharm and does not agitate me...
2. The last ticket I had was when I used a radar detector (1996); does not help when they pull the trigger right when you are in front of them. Yes, 750HP and no tickets... knocking on wood now...
3. Angry workouts are the best...
4. That is almost twice the speed limit, I would expect no less than 300.00.

good luck

Re: First Ticket

I haven't gotten any kind of ticket in about 16 years, but I've been pulled over 3 times in my Mach. (1) No front plate, (2) Improper lane change, and about 6 months ago a deputy tried to nail me for wreckless driving (squealing tires), speeding(only 10 over), rolling through a stop sign (B.S.), and improper lane change. I got off every time with a warning. This last one was complete crap. It was 3am and not one person on the road anywhere.

Re: First Ticket

Pray judge at least reduces it (the speed), and double pray OH doesn't have a super speeder law (here in GA anything 15 mph over kicks in a reckless and ticket starts at like $300). Start saving up now, its gonna hurt...sorry. No tickets in Mach, 6 warnings in 1 year for BS stuff.

Re: First Ticket

From a legal forum (dude is 17)

The best thing is to get one of your parents to go to court with you. Talk to the officer and try to get a reduction in the fine/points. Usually they will offer something which can make a large difference in the next three years worth of insurance.

Columbus

Minor Misdemeanor — Most speeding tickets are minor misdemeanors. The only penalty for a minor misdemeanor is a fine of up to $150. Speeding is typically a minor misdemeanor unless you’ve had two or more speeding or assured clear distance violations within the preceding year, or unless your speed was higher than 35 mph during certain hours in a school zone or business district in a municipality, or higher than 50 mph in other parts of a municipality.

Whether a speeding ticket results in points added to your license depends on how much your speed exceeded the speed limit where you were driving. In Ohio, points for speeding tickets break down like this:

0 Points — Typically, when your speed is within 1 to 5 mph over the speed limit, you don’t get points on your license for a ticket. You also don’t typically get points for driving 6 to 10 mph over the speed limit in a zone where the speed limit is 55 mph or more, such as on an interstate.
2 Points — When your speed is 6 to 10 mph over the speed limit in a zone where the speed limit is less than 55 mph, such as a residential district inside a town or city, you’ll accrue 2 points on your license for the violation. You’ll also get 2 points for speeds that are 11 to 29 mph over the speed limit in any type of zone.
4 Points — When your speed is 30 mph or more over the speed limit in any type of zone, you get 4 points on your driver’s license.

That was a $25 fine for doing under the speed limit at the strip.

Re: First Ticket

Back in '68 when I was 17 I got a ticket in Ohio on old route 40 for doing 105 in a 50. Back then the nighttime speed limit was 50 on the ol' 4-lane that was 70 in the daytime.

Good thing my $350 '62 Galaxie would only do 105.

I don't remember the ticket price but I remember with my Gas Station job wages it took a long time to build back my savings I had going for a Muscle Car.

I lost my license until I turned 18 and I paid big on insurance for a long time afterwards.

When I finally did get my Muscle Car my insurance monthly payments were more than my Car payments!

I'm sure things have changed a lot since then, but the principles of penalties are still bad, probably worse.

Good luck with it and if you can, contact a Lawyer and at least get advice on your options.

Yep, the last one I got was 1981 using the latest and greatest unit of the day.

Pulled the trigger on me for 65 in a 55 when the National speed limit was 55.

I hid the detector in the glove box and when he came up to the car he said, "Where's your Bird Dog? I know you either have an Escort or a (some Radio Shack Brand of the day)". I had an Escort.

I asked how he knew and he asked me back to his Car and showed me. Turns out the Radar of the day omitted a signal of a certain length when you had a Detector. The longer the signal the better the unit. If no Detector no signal, just speed registered.

He then stated that if I threw the Detector in the trash there would not be a Cop in the State that would give me a ticket for anything under 70. But if I kept it I'll get a ticket for anything over 55.

So, I gave it away and knock on wood, I haven't gotten a ticket since. Also, I traveled that same road over and over keeping it between 65-69 and seeing many a Cop, and didn't get a ticket.

Re: First Ticket

I like the Escort 8500 Radar Detector a lot. It does NOT have continuous beeps & false alarms like the old ones did. It has saved me many tickets I'm positive. What everybody forgets is that it can still save you if you are not the first car! You will pick up some scatter & be able to react if you are not the "Rabbit" in front! BUT usually the instant on's have got you dead in your tracks! In my area the vast majority seem to be the old radar Ka band & the patrols here travel with their's on all the time...I detect them up to 3 miles away! If nothing else it helps keep me awake & alert on long trips!

Even laser types can & do set my Escort off in time occaisionally... I paid $350 for my Blue LED one years ago so I think they may be under $300 by now...check around.

Escort has a lot better model 9500 & other things but they get spendy read up on the specs & see if they are what you want...I have had excellent luck with mine for years!

Re: First Ticket

All radar detectors do is promise a ticket when you get pulled over, and empty your wallet. Police officers loose any compassion once they see them. Officers are not bad guys like the media wants you to believe they are. I got pulled over a little while ago. went flying by him and when he pulled out out I just pulled over and waited for him. No need in making it worse. Did exactly what he asked, and owned what I was doing. He let me go with a "slow it down". When your almost double the limit even the Pope will get nailed, so kept it to mild roar.

The real fun is when you get the Bozo messing with you so mad he screws up and gets busted. then roll by and laugh. I know your young so just chalk it up as a learning experience, and deal with the consequence. I got nailed at 115 in a 55 when I bought my first mustang. Cop was "cool" and only wrote me for 90 as anymore would have been jail time. Learned right then the best thing is to own it and not make up some bull ***** story.

Re: First Ticket

A long while back ,I was pulled over for 75 in a 50 and just so you know it was a country road with trees on both sides for miles. Anyway, Im sitting in the Troopers car and he says to me , you sure are taking this calmly, my reply was, well its my job to speed its your job to catch me. Can't get upset if you win a few! He just laughed and finished writing the ticket. Oh he did write it for 69 so like he said honesty can sometimes save you

Well said for sure, before I ditched the detectors I got pulled in NC and proceeded to try and talk my way out of it. The Officer said, "With what you have on your dash I'd just keep my mouth shut if I were you". I then kept at it and he read me my rights!!

set of supplements that helps your endurance and recovery for the gym. You do have to be aware of what you are taking, some are just caffeine boosters while others actually do help. It does help recovery as well. But, there are some blends that make you very agitated; users should stay away from those.

Also; you can adjust your diet to pull in those nutrients that the supplements give you but that is actually pretty difficult.

I look at them like Vitamins for the active.

Ahh, I see, about 15 years ago with the help of nothing but protein and a little creatine I went from a fit 185 pounds to a pretty ripped 205 in about six months. I never did anything for a preworkout though.

Red face Re: First Ticket

Ok, so I went to court didn't have to go to the judge though. They let me just pay it. Came out too be $250 dollars . But it could've been a lot worse. I've learned my lesson though haha.
