Noise from rear end

Ok, so i had the interior out of my car for some time but i didnt drive it when i initially took it out. I drove it after i installed mm flsfc and mm xd rear lower control arms and wild rides torque box reinforcement kit (upper and lower). There was a wierd clunking noise coming from the rear. I had more work to do to the car so i continued the install of my S&W 8 pt roll bar, and just recently put the interior back in.(minus the rear seat as i still have to make a rear seat delete.) Anyway, iv been driving the car more and more now and the noise comes from any where above 35 mph when coasting, traveling at a constant speed while at low rpm, or coming to a stop while coasting. It varies the rate of "clunking" with speed of the car as well. Once you start to accelerate again, the noise goes away. Im kinda stumped without taking stuff apart and was wondering if anyone has heard of this, or expirienced this.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Edit: I believe cause was found...see post 10

Are the gears new? And what is your pinion angle set at? Sounds to me like a back lash or pinion depth issue, or possibly drive line noise from an angle issue

Re: Noise from rear end

Had the car up on stands and had my dad go through the gears and when shifted and gas was hit, (barely, got up to maby 3 grand) the uca bushings gave ALOT, and you could see the driveshft where it meets the flange for the rear flying all over the place. Im guessing that means they are beat. I see that mm sells replacement bushings, but my guess is i will be replacing them all the time the faster i go. So, more permanent fix = aftermarket uppers against maximum motorsports suggestion? Thoughts?

Re: Noise from rear end

What are you planning to do with the car? If you are keeping the UCAs in the factory position, replace the bushings with factory. Don't get sucked in to replacing them with poly or anything else. Unless you are prepared to go 3 link, watts or some other variation, let the UCA bushings flex.

Re: Noise from rear end

So I'm pretty sure the issue was that the pilot bearing was absolutely destroyed... I just dropped the trans (which I'm pretty sure what the noises were coming from it was just deceiving while driving) and just the outter race is left with the remaining parts everywhere else. I think with the input shaft being unsupported lead to all the clunking and banging.

Re: Noise from rear end

Keep an eye on it. Several times I thought I had rear end noise and there ended up being a fluid leak.
