Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

A day after I get my car back, this started happening. The car also shakes a bit if I give it more than just a toe of throttle. Clutch?? They just installed an Exedy Mach 500.

No it seems to stay the same. I really hope it's not something engine related, please just be the clutch.

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

Sounds like something metal rattling in a cavernous area, like the bellhousing or an exhaust pipe. Maybe something got dropped in your exhaust?

Does it speed up with more rpm? Btw, those anthracite fr500's do look really good.

It does sound like it, but that wouldn't explain the car shaking a bit when I start giving it a little throttle.

Nope, seems to be at a steady pace from what I have noticed no matter what. I love the wheels, they look better when they're clean though lol. Haven't got a chance to wash the car yet after getting it back.

I'm having the car towed back to the shop today and they're going to get right on it. This is becoming a nightmare with this car, argh. 2.5 months gone, new engine... get it back and it lasts a day. During all the nice summer weather too!! The one day it WAS running, it was raining.

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

Boy I'm really sorry to hear about this.

I know how frustrating it is to think something is finally fixed, only to have something go wrong.

I hope it is something simple, it definitely could be!

Maybe a throw out bearing? But usually that's not a clanking sound

Keep us posted, anxious to hear

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

The shop says the junk in a cat got all loosened up and it rattling around plus blocking airflow. That makes sense. Guess I gotta wait a few more days to enjoy the stang. Oh well, that's nothing on top of 2.5 months lol.

Oh that's actually great news!! Way better than motor issues!

Super happy to hear, thanks for the update

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

I posted a week ago that I busted one of my catts and now I don't have to describe what it sounded like , just like that ! Also blocked my my exhaust keeping me from driving it .
Very glad to hear that's all it was. Sounds like you are almost out of the woods.
I'm just curious how one got busted ?

Good deal. Summer's great, we gotta have it. But I prefer the other 3 seasons for driving anyways. You picked the right one for downtime imo.

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

the downtime sucks but that seems like the best possible outcome giving the possibilities, glad it wasnt worse

That gives me confidence in their diagnosis! Not that I don't trust them, STLMustangs is the best around. It sounds a lot scarier than a busted cat though doesn't it? I was starting to freak out when it started happening since I don't have the money for a major repair after getting the forged short block put in!

Not sure how it got busted. Probably just a defective cat and/or a bunch of unburned fuel messing it up from when I had the stock engine in there. One of the cylinders had the spark plug totally fouled up with oil so it wasn't firing.

Nice, what's your whole exhaust setup and how loud is it? They're actually going to put an offroad X on mine now so I don't have to worry about this happening again.

That's kinda true, fall is better! All the other nice cars are out on the roads though, and I'm feeling a little out of place driving around my dad's 2010 Malibu.

This all works out though I guess, now that it's back there they can go ahead and get the smaller blower pulley and 15% overdrive crank pulley on and retune after they replace the mid pipe. Should be rollin' back out of there with 550+ at the tires.

Bring on the 'vettes! The Stingrays anyway, pretty sure I'll still get curb stomped by a new Z06. I'll need to go D1 or F1A next year.

I've got a Bassani x pipe, with a Flowmaster 40 series catback.

I have only had it on the car a few months, and didn't even drive it much because I started all my suspension upgrades.

I originally had the high flow cats installed, and it sounded fine like that.

When I did my rear suspension, I had to pull the cat back off anyways. So while I did that I remove the cats and installed the bypass tubes the Bassani came with, along with MIL eliminators.

Though it is definitely louder without the cats, it's honestly not as bad as I thought it would be. I personally like it a lot better without the cats.

For normal driving, it is not of not obnoxious at all. If you get on it, of course it's louder, but it's not my daily driver so I'm fine with that.

I think that I'll be fine leaving it as is without the cats, I'm definitely liking it so far

Re: Chattering sound! [VIDEO]

I win the diagnosis! Seriously though great to hear it's nothing major. I'd much rather drop the exhaust than the trans.
