Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

So anyone with experience on these. I got broadsided on the drivers side. door is all pushed in, rear QP smashed in. I haven't heard from the Auto Body shop yet, they haven't looked at it yet. Am I looking at frame damage here, or worse, will the Insurance Company consider it totaled?

Ugh! It sounds like "normal" body damage unless it really got nailed. **** Masshole drivers.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

If the frame damage is that bad, hate to say it but will probably get totaled. I hope that is not really the case here. My frame got tweaked a while ago but insurance paid to have it on a frame rack and straightened it out for me. Keep your fingers crossed!

hard to tell without pics but they total is based on % of damage against the book value of the car, not sure on the exact number

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Yeah, that's my fear. It's an 04, was in very good shape, ~66K on it, I bet the book which is not the same book KBB or Edmunds uses, insurance companies have their own. I gotta say with New Door, RQP, paint decal detailing etc. has got to put this close to current book.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

I personally don't like to settle for body damage that's been smashed on the doors and qp... body shops suck and they can't really seem to take their time fixing it correctly. I would try to get the insurance company to total it, buy it back, part it out, make some $ and invest in a new mach or terminator. That's just me. Post some pictures up that would help.

I agree that is one of the hardest crash damages to repair correctly. Problems like door not closing right , wind noise , water leaks ect. Just hope they total it. Seriously !

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

I wreaked my first mach.. In the door and quarter area.. part that sucks is that Vin sticker is in that jam.. I got lucky and was able to get a nice sticker form ford. I used to be a painter in a auto body shop until I got sick of all the fumes.

Get us some pics and Ill be able to give you some advice..

Make sure you are clear with the Insurance people if you would like the car fixed or not.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Thanks all for the input. I can't get pics yet, it's at the Auto Body Shop waiting for the insurance adjuster.
I was thinking along the same lines, that it would probably not ever be the same again given the area it got hit, and it's substantial.
I hated to think of totaling her, I will miss her, but it's probably the best thing at this point.

Hope for the best.

If they total it, buy it back & part it out.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Well, exactly what happened. Insurance totaled it, I bought it back for $900, and got a $13K settlement. I think she's fixable.Click image for larger version

Any damage to the underside, such as the floor pans, etc?

That sucks. How many miles are on it? It looks fixable from the top but The underside will tell the tale. how your gaps on the pass side?

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

No, from what I can see anyway. It looks like the Door took the brunt of it. Only 66K on it, runs awesome.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Keep the car... Drive it forever.. you want a mint one.. get a new 5.0!

Yeah.. fix the car! Buy a new or used door.. and repair the quarter.. not hit bad !

you will just have to paint the door and front edge of quarter... blend the fender and back half of quarter!

not bad at all- but still.. it sucks and sorry it happened.

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Wow, you bought it back for $900?! My plan for if this ever happens to me is to part out whatever I can except for the engine and transmission and then put them into a Factory Five '33 Hot Rod. But that's just me...

Re: Well, My Mach just got smashed Saturday.

Wow, I never dealt with buying back a car that insurance totaled out nor have i known anyone who has. If your deal is similar to what people normally see the I think thats a fantastic deal! 13k in hand and 900 to buy back! Does the buy back price reflect what must be done to get it back to perfect condition? or is it a flat price regardless of the amount of damage?
