yes very true, but heard the dipstick is off, that is why this is being asked,

i've always used 7, its right on when i check the dipstick too. so this is why i wanted to ask to find out, i was told when i bought the mach by the ford dealership that it take 7, not the normal 5. so with my new motor i'm just curious and want to make sure we are good to go before i do some stupid **** and could have just ask, that wouldn't be a bad ideal to do 6.5 i be meeting in the middle

Re: engine oil how much

^ that's what I was gonna say...look in the manual lol

But when I did my oil change and put in the recommended amount per the manual, I happen to check it again couple days later and it seemed a little low for my tatse so I added another 1/2 qt. I wanna say I threw in 6 qts to begin with. I think right now it will sit halfway between the two marks on the dip stick.

Gotchya... im thinking a little more oil for a modded mach is a good idea. 6 quarts for a non modded mach is perfect as what I explained down below

Obtaining an oil level reading after a change is very dependent upon how long the previous oil was drained for. I let my cars drain for a half an hr. By allocating more time for drainage i will ofcourse add more oil vs the person that drains their oil for a few minutes. So if i added the same amount as someone else our readings could be very different therefore conflicting our opinions

Dealers and jiffy lube etc are masters at that The less time they allow for draining the less oil they use which ofcourse decreases their overhead ha

I'm not at home so I cant check the manual but im pretty positive the manual calls for 6 quarts. I can vouch that 6 quarts is very efficient for at least a non modded mach. I sent my last oil change to Blackstone Labs for a full diagnostic test and a TBN (6 months and 2,300 miles on oil). The Machs oil was PERFECT and had a TBN (total base number - how much active additive remaining) of 2.8. This number showed the oil had more lubrication properties left and as per Blackstone Labs the oil could have been used for approximately 2k more miles. Now I do not abuse nor race my mach so this test is strictly based off a non daily driver non abused stock Mach (only CAI, Diablo)

I know MMR sells an aftermarket oil pan with a 7qt capacity so Im not sure why they would offer that if our stangs stock oil pan could hold 7 quarts without compromising something. Just my thought

I used 5w 20 mobil 1 btw

Re: engine oil how much

Stock pan. 6 total quarts with filter change.

Many dipsticks are not accurate.

When you do an oil/filter change, add the 6 quarts. Wait some time for the oil to drain completely out of the cylinder head and into the pan. Take a file or make a mental note of where the level is on YOUR dipstick. That's where full should always be.

I've always used 6 qts. The dipstick always reads about 2/3rds above the add mark. So, your safe with 6 qts including the filter.

Re: engine oil how much

since its already been bumped... 7 quarts absolutely will not hurt a single thing. These engines put soooooo much oil in the heads you will NOT have any issues with the crank whipping the oil in the pan

The oil pan can hold 9 quarts before it's close to the rail. With the deep skirt block an extra quart or two won't hurt it. I've ran 7 quarts for as long as I can remember.
