There's just too much drinking and driving and texting going on now for it to be risked in my opinion. If and when I find myself in a flat tire situation I will be getting myself off the road and away from the car asap and getting it towed to discount or wherever.
I completely get it, but after having a severe flat on the Boss I don't even want to be in that situation again. I was able to pull into a parking lot when the TPMS light went on, immediately. It was already too late. I was fortunate enough to have one of my shop guys available to being me a floor jack and a four way and get it repaired back at my shop. Most people don't have that available to them. It was an ugly repair, but enough to get the car back home until the right tire could be located and ordered (!!!???!!!), taking only a week to get in (again, !!!????!!!!) so the car could be put properly on the road. Yeah, I'm getting a spare.

Have the same issue with the Boss 302, and yes I did have a flat and no, the stupid inflator they give didn't help AT ALL. I'll be investing the additional $500 for that peace of mind that Ford refused to give. Idiots.
And yes, the SN197 drives way bigger than the SN95. It was like going from my '69 Mustangs to my '73 convertible. The S550 drives big to me as well.

Curious about the company for a spare. My 2011 GT500 has the can of fix-o-flat from ford I'd never use unless stranded... Like to know more.

From one OG to another; congrats on your new Stang!

BTW, my daughters (old '17 eco boost) had a spare tire; my wife's '16 CS/GT had the optional No Spare options. lol

Re: Well I did it.

I thought I would re-visit now that I have 1000 miles on the car with the good and the could-be-better...

Start with the good...

Power. As expected. The power in this thing does not disappoint. I know I am late to the Coyote-party, but wow...This thing flat gets it...The 3.73 gears fits the car well.

Handling. Not perfect. but solid. Cannot find specs on the spring rates, but they have to be progressive rate. For a big car...it handles as expected.
Steering feel is adjustable, and I run it in sport most of the time.

Brakes...I love Ford Brakes. The pedal is right now...this thing stops...
I remember going from my fox to the Mach and how blown away I was about how well the Mach stopped. This is not the same leap in performance because the Mach's brakes are really good and match the car well. But, for as big as this car is I am impressed.

Interior. Not perfect, but again. much higher quality. I have the base car so the interior is simple. The seats are comfortable and the cloth is really good.
I like the sunglass-comparment left of the steering wheel. The sync system works well for the base system.

Shifter/clutch. Not bad on either. First few power shifts have been effortless and I have found the timing easy to master so far. For a stock shifter its not bad. I am not rushing to spend the 500$ on a mgw..YET...

Now the other...

Build quality is ok. rear bumper does not line up on these cars as well as it should to the quarters. I have seen the issue on most s550's I have looked at...its not a big issue, but its there. Hood sits a little high at the fenders. I have attempted to install the MRT hood strut kit and it causes a gap at the right fender that is notable. Have to play with the hinge, or bumpers to see if it is all at the hinge or even at the hood latch...

Handling. A little soft under normal driving. The Mach is much more connected to the road. Granted I have rebuilt the Mach's suspension with some good parts. I suspect the GT when pushed will respond as advertised.

Lack of a spare tire....we have covered that one already...

The rear deck lid exterior trim scratches if you look at it...

Lots of brake dust.

Overall, Very pleased. It is an easy car to drive. It does not tug on you at all. I can drive it like a little old lady and it is just fine putzing around...
Took the kids to College station for lunch a few weekends ago and managed 26mpg with the 4 of us in the car, and the full size spare I purchased in the trunk...

Is it a better car than the Mach? As any car would be 16 years later, yes. Do I like it more than the Mach? No...I am happily splitting time with both, and other than the Mach starting to act like a jealous girlfriend lately (horrid noise coming out from what appears to be thowout-bearing now) I still get into the old girl and enjoy every mile...

It is as good a car today as the Mach was in 2003.

Re: Well I did it.

Well put and so similar to my feelings about my '13 Boss 302. They show the progression of the years, but aren't leap forward that I felt the Mach 1 is/was. Shws how attention to the small tings makes so much the difference, a real shout out to Scott Hoag and his team.

Re: Well I did it.

The Mach is Beer and Pretzels, where as the new Mustang is Champagne and Caviar! Is that a bad thing, No. But there is just something about the rawness of the Mach that ands to it's allure. Just my .02

Re: Well I did it.

Congrats on the new GT. They are impressive. Just don't like how raspy they are with certain exhaust systems.

I remember hearing about a possible class action suit against Ford because corrosion between the steel hub and aluminum rims made it so people could not get the wheels off in order to change a flat and had to have the car towed to a garage. Never had an issue myself but could see where it could be possible.

I have to agree with you. The Mach is truly unique and special. The more I Drive the new GT, the more I appreciate the Mach for what it was in its day and what it still is today.

Agreed. I am not in any hurry to replace the factory system for now. We have the axle back and resonator delete at SSS for the 2015-2017 cars, but we don't have the dual tips for the 2018-2019 cars yet. I am not leaning toward doing any cutting. Already been talking about seeing if we can get the dual tip made but...again. stock is fine for now. The Mach can be the aggressive sounding one in my stable for now...

Re: Well I did it.

I'm amazed and pleased with how much volume they gave the factory exhaust on these gen 3 coyotes. My mom's new '19 sounds good and is just about as loud at cruising speeds as my Mach 1. Full throttle I don't think it would be as loud but I haven't ripped on her car so I can't say for sure. It does drive and ride very nice though.

Side note- Going straight from the 19 and getting in the Mach 1 is a lot of fun. If I had both I'd be bouncing back and forth daily between the two.

Once I get the Mach’s issue resolved I will get back to switching off. I really do enjoy both
