Re: 4.30's or 4.10
I'm on the left side of the ticket and the guy with the 2008 mustang is on the right, at least I beat him. As the night went on the track conditions got worse becuase the track temp fell below 55 degrees. After this run I was spinning real bad first thru second. I also need to improve my driving skills at the track, this was only my second time driving at the drags.
One car blew his engine and another guy almost lost it in a mustag and got sideways on two wheels, but he saved it. Alot of time was going by between runs and the track was cooling down. Alot of drivers were having traction problems last night, it was to cold. I'm going this Saturday to run again, the track conditions will be alot better and it will be during the day. I was hoping to get my car in the high 12's but we will see. I think if I can hook up I may get there. I was told told that I let off a little early during this run and I would of had a better time and mph. My best e/t was 13.24 and my best mph was 109.25 best r/t was .059. I'll get better with practice, I was only able to make four runs and they closed the track. I'll let you know on the rpm at 70mph, I'll check it today but I think it was around 2,350 at 70mph, I'll check it later and post it. Sorry for the blurry picture, c-ya (UPDATE) I checked my RPM AT 70 MPH and it's at 2,350 with 315/35/17 tires. Last edited by RedRocket; 02-18-2010 at 02:56 PM. |

I just got my steeda dual friction clutch in the other day along with my aluminum flywheel and Steeda clutch quadrant kit. Once I install the new clutch I'll see some better times, I should break in to the high 12's. Take care, Rick Last edited by RedRocket; 02-28-2010 at 09:41 AM. |

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
No, haven't been back to the track yet because of my clutch slipping really bad. I am having my new clutch set -up installed next Friday, so I should be in the high 12's after that. Also I don't speed shift at the track and I don't launch at 2,000-3,000 rpms. When the last yellow light comes on I just punch it.
I could get a better time if I speed shifted, but I don't want to beat on the trans like that. When I launch off the line at the track, if I launch at 2,000-3,000 rpms my car just spins the heck out of my drag radials and I get a slower time. We'll see what happens after the new clutch gets installed. It's Pinks All Out this weekend at the track. I'm begining to think that launching off the line is an art, and I haven't mastered it yet. |

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
yes the 60' is where you have to master. I am working on that too. Just practice your launch try 1800- 2300 rpm...

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
Thanks! I'll try the 1800-2300 launch next time at the track. I had my new clutch installed so I'm good to go. I should hit the trach in about two weeks maybe sooner.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
Depends on the following:
Horse power Driving application (street, strip, or road corse) Tires you will run RPM range the car makes power due to cams and intake manifold Jerome

Did you ever get into the 12's? I'm also in between 4.30 and 4.10s but am strongly considering 4.30s.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
What about 4.30s in an auto? Would that be too much gear with a 26" tall tire? What rpm would I finish the 1/4 at? I had 4.10s in my GT and must say I wasn't impressed. But then again I wasn't impressed with my GT lol

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
This thread should be between 4.30s or 4.56s. Anything less should only be considered if you're running out of gear at the strip.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
That statement didn't make sense. A 4.30 gear'd mach will outrun the same power/weight mach with stock gears. Only difference is the 4.30 gear'd Mach will run out of fourth gear at what, 120ish?

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
I just brought my 04 mach for a quick drive since i live on a road that doesnt have much sand and everything is frozen. I have the stock 3.55 gears and the car is completely stock. I actually just took it out for the first time since I bought it, couldnt wait any longer. The car seemed a lot faster and much more low end than my previous 2 mustangs. a 95 gt and 98 cobra. I was thinking that in the spring I was going to go with a set of 4.10s but after taking it for a ride and doing a couple starts from a stand still I couldnt imagine making the gears any taller. Im afraid Im going to be tearing through rear tires already. Granted I have the stock 245's on the car, I felt like 1st gear with any throttle wanted to break the tires loose and even when shifting into 2nd. Maybe I didnt drive the car long enough to really get a feel for it. But for what I did drive it, it just doesnt seem like it needs any taller gears than the 3.55's. Maybe you guys that have been in my situation before can help explain.

Re: 4.30's or 4.10
...so assuming both cars had the same mods other than gears, which would be better doing 0-130 MPH- 3.55s or 4.30s?
