Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

The Hooters we went to I don't think was in Irondale. It was more north of the track (about 15 minute drive)and right off of the Interstate. I stayed at the Holiday Inn (Express?) right off of the Interstate in Irondale, and Dave and a number of others stayed right up the hill from the HI. Across the Interstate there was a really good BBQ place (except they were out of root beer, but that's another ongoing story that goes back to SEMA and the Interceptor project) and then a Logans, where we had a small get together of Mach 1 owners.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

The Hooters in Irondale Eastwood Mall area is closed. There is a new one in Trussville off I-459 at the US Hwy 11 exit.

Sorry folks nothing to give you as far as new info, as soon as I have something to share I'll post it.

After our annual show here on April 19, I'll try to post some hotel info. as far as prices and locations.

The Trussville Hooters is the one we had our Mach1 GTG for MCA 30TH and there's a Hampton-Inn hotel cross street there to, that's where I stay at , and it is 5 miles from Barber Motor Sports race track here's number and website for the Hampton-Inn of Trussville, www.hamptoninn.com and number 1-205-655-9777

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

I'm from St. Louis, but I've done a lot of business travel down to Birmingham, driving thru Trussville on up to Albertville. Trussville has more eateries than you can imagine. There's a barbeque place there that's just awesome! Lot's of places to overnight as well. If this is anything like the 40th in Nashville, it's a must-do event for everyone. Can we sign up to run our cars on the track again? The vintage trans-am racing at Nashville was totally awesome. Watching 69 and 70 Boss 302's go at it was a time warp!

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

A UPDATE and some Info that I hope will help.

1. About the Bar B Que places, the one in Irondale that I think you are talking about is Golden Rule, great local place. The place in Trussville is Jim n Nicks, also a great place to eat although its more pricey than Golden Rule.

2. Info about the show: We have been told to prepare for 6000 cars, I don't know where we are going to stack cars but we are going to make it happen. If you were at the 30th on Thursday night you will remember the cruise to Homewood. We are going to do something different at this event, we will more than likely cruise to a mall in the same area. Except for 250 cars going we are expecting 900 cars. Same deal shopping, live band and a bunch of good looking cars.

3. A STRONG WORD OF ADVICE!!!!!! MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS ASAP.
The weekend after the 45th show will be the Spring Race at Talladega and many of the hotels will be slotted off for this race. Many of the NASCAR Fans make a week long event out of this and hotels might get scarce. Don't wait too long. Again, I suggest anything in Trussville an Leeds/Moody, if you have to, Pell City is an option and is 20 miles east of the Barbers facility. Also mentioned is the area in Irondale, just be careful and pick national hotels in this area. Avoid the 280 area, it will be strongly pushed by the MCA but traffic in this area will be a NIGHTMARE. As a last resort this area is there, also not mentioned yet is the Sheraton downtown Birmingham.

Hope all this helps some, as before if I can help or answer any questions please PM me.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

Also I'll try to make a comment on Ford and their involvement in the show. It is Ford's Show, they are putting the money up for the show and will be in charge, as we understand it now. MCA will help host it with 3 Mustang Clubs in the state of Alabama providing the man power.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

Redhorse, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the 30th MCA show was paid for by MCA, with Ford adding little to the coffers. I don't know what MCA threw at that show, but what you guys did with they they sponsored was magnificent. I can't wait to se what you'll be able to do with a Ford-sized budget!!!
The small coins and large sized particpation 'awards' were very much appreciated by all who went (at least the ones I talked to). the track event so way cool, you just had to be there, even on the parade laps. I'm glad we got th eearly start on that, because by midmorning there was a line around the whole lot! Can't wait to do it again and see a string of Machs making semi-high speed laps.

Yes, the 30th was paid for mostly by the MCA, with Ford putting some money towards it. I was just a little worker bee at the 30th so I can't say very much about who paid for what. I hope we have a nice budget to work with this go around.
To give you an idea of the cost we are looking at. If I am not mistaken, I think I was told that it cost $20,000 a day to use Barbers Motorsports Park for the 30th. We had the track for 5 1/2 days starting on Tuesday.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

It was money well spent. Those who went out the first few days, at speed, had a great time. Those of us who went out on the parade lap day (and there were a lot of us! ) had just as much fun 'touring' at 75-80mph.
The whole structure of how the show was put on was so impressive (take it from one who has not only been to many shows, but has been a club president and know what's involved) from the check in, and the great surprises in the goodie box, to the final hand out of trophies and particiapton awards.
If you get a chance, go to the thread about the MCA 30th show, and see what everyone had to say. Forward it to those in your club, worker bees and all, so that they can know how much the work they put in was appreciated and that they have set a bar so high that the hopes for the next show will require nothing short of magic. J/K, whatever they can do will be very much appreciated.
I can believe the 6,000 car figure. The good thing about Barber, is that they can actually accomidate that many. The 1,100 from the last show left a lot of open spaces. Let's see if we can fill 'em with Mach 1s! (Hopefully Ford will get the drift about 2009 also being the 40th Anniv. of the Mach 1! )

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

We need get a 40th Anniv. Mach1 logo for the show , for t-shirts decals

I was thinking having a picture 1969 on left side then having a 76 Mach1 in middle and 2003 Mach1 on right and above the cars it reads 40th Anniv. MACH1

Under the 40th anniv. MACH1 put 1969- 2004.

Re: 45th Mustang Anniversary

Some more info to add. If you came to the 30th MCA show and were at the track on Thursday, you'll remember the cruise to downtown Homewood. Many of you posted pictures of the afternoon's events. There were around 235 cars in the cruise line. The event included a live band at the downtown stage, merchants stayed open for the guest and it was a general cruise-in feel with some of the best looking Mustangs in the country.

We don't feel that downtown Homewood will be able to take the crowd we have been told to prepare for. So we are looking at accessing a mall parking area with 1200 parking spaces. Some of the leadership of MCA have told us to prepare for a 900 car caravan to the cruise-in. All of this is still very much in the talking stages and nothing is set in stone yet.

I hope to be able to write you folks a book in June or July. That is when Ford has told us they will have more info. So stay tune for more info.

We are working on the Host Hotel for the show, you can't make reservations greater than 1 year in advance. Will post once we get confirmation. We are looking at the same one we stayed at last time.

1. Registration will begin soon. You will have to preregister for the event, you will not be allowed in the paddock area unless you are preregistered.

2. There will be no corrals, so to park as a group the registry will have to organize something to come in together. I will try to reserve a spot for the group. We'll just have to know how many folks are planning on coming and set up a place to meet. Don't worry there are plenty of places in the area to set up a meeting spot.

3. The vendor area will be in a different spot this show. The place where folks took a bunch of pictures has been enlarged and that is where the vendors and all merchandise will be at. Shuttles will be taking show partcipants to the different areas of the track and park.

4. Along with regular paddock area, cars will be parked in a grassy area with paved roads in between the parking areas. The grass looks like a golf fairway and you will pull off or back off the asphalt into your parking spot. No cross country driving will be required. Some areas of this location will be in the shade. I'll leave it up to the powers that be but in my opinion the grassy areas will be the best spot to be.

5. There will be more food and drinks available this time. Last show there was maybe 3 vendors. This time it will be alot different.

Just some of the news I have so far. I post more as I have it.

Do you have a CB? If not we can Cell phone it. I have two hand held CB's and you can borrow one. I also have a Nav system to help us get lost better.

Ya thanks for this update.
I have basically talked myself out of this for a couple reasons.
  1. financial - too much to ship my Mach there
  2. don't really want to take the 2 weeks vacation to drive to Vegas, to turn around and drive back
  3. Not too fond of crossing the mountains in early April; chances are high for snow. I'll have double the threat as I have to cross them to get to Vegas, then cross back.

If I do hook up with y'all it may be in Mustang OK. Unless I hook up with the M1R group from the east. There was talk of that when we met up in Carlisle.
