Re: Trivia for today
For today...
Not counting 'tuner cars' like Shelby, Saleen, etc., what were the first Mustangs to come with 18" wheels and tires? 17"? 16"? 15"?

Re: Trivia for today
Off the top of my head and without digging through my Mustang Melvin books,
The first 15's should be the 10-hole wheel set on the 85 Gt?? I think the TRX was a 14. The Boss 429 had a wacky size for 69 maybe it was a 15? The First 16 was the 84 SVO. The First 17 was the 95 Cobra R??? |

Re: Trivia for today
The first car to get 15" was the first generation (64.5-65) K-code. It was an option, but it was a factory option. Rotunda 15"........maybe you weren't talking about options???

Re: Trivia for today
The '65 with the Competition Suspension Option was the first Mustang to have a 15" wheel and tire package, this option could not only be had on K code Hi-Po cars but also regular V-8 cars and six cylinder cars. There is at least one known six banger CSO car, but the wheel is such a rare item (four lug wheel pattern as opposed to the V-8s five lugs) the owner took them off and put on regular 14" wheels. The owner still has the 15" wheels and tires and uses it for shows. Ford also did not have a unique Mustang wheel cover for the package so a set of 'accessory' hubcaps were put in teh trunk for the owner to install themselves. The '93 Cobra was the first Mustang to have a 17" wheel and tire package, the Cobra R used the same set up but with a different style (split three spoke as opposed to the regular Cobras fan style) wheel painted black.
![]() Might the '07 SVT Shelby Mustang Cobra GT-500 be the first Mustang the first to use a 19" whaeel and tire package? Doesn't sound like it, but you never know. And we know for a fact it will hold the record for the longest name in Mustang history! ![]()

Re: Trivia for today
As I recall - The competition suspension package is the GT package. The sixer may have had the 15" rims, but that was a special order item. The only car to have the 15" Rotunda Rims (blackouts) as a regular factory option (non special order) was the K-code.
I will obviously double check since you know than I do about stangs Falcon. I will let you know.

Re: Trivia for today
The GT package did indeed onclude what was called a 'special handling package', but with the more familiar 14" wheel and tire combo. I believe it included most of the same mechanical components as the CSO, the only difference being the uprated tires and wheels. The Competition Suspension Option is rarely seen and included the upsized 15" tire package. Remeber the standard base model car had 13" wheels and tires, but again it is something rarely seen.

Re: Trivia for today
I've seen the same date (Aug. '64) listed as the ending date for the 15" option, but I've also seen/heard of later cars having it so, like so many things with the early Mustangs, it gets a little murky. I guess my 'correct answer' should have been 64 1/2...

Re: Trivia for today
I was just playing with you. There are so many subtle differences between the two. Basically the Generator is the most obvious.

Re: Trivia for today
In 1970, Ford made a Mach1 special edition called Twister Specials.
What one color were they available in and what single state were the sold in?

Re: Trivia for today
Actually they did a Torino, not a Cougar in the same series. They were sold in Kansas City, all painted Grabber orange, and origianally supposed to all be 428 CJ's. As the engines were in short supply many came with 351 Clevelands.

Re: Trivia for today
The rare 'Sidewinder Special' was reputed to be sold in the Southwestern US (Tx, Az., N.M.,etc.), as of my most recent information only 5 have been documented to exist. They are all sportsroofs, not Mach 1's, and have 351C engines. One Sidewiinder owner has claims to have seen a 428CJ Sidewinder. The striping and logo came shpped in the trunk for dealer installation.

Re: Trivia for today
You have found what I consider to be the most interesting classic pony site on the internet. The guy who runs it, Wolfgang Kohl, was featured in Musang Monthly recently. I've traded emails with him, and he is very much the enthusiast. I'm currently helping him with getting information together on the designer of the pony tri-bar emblem, Phil Clark. From the way it is going it will be interesting! Check out the Bullitt page, he really has good info on the original car.
![]() Most of the members here know that vintage Mustangs sold in Europe were badged as 'T5's' instead of 'Mustang' due to copyright rules there. What was the last model year that the T5 was offered and the Mustang name reverted to the cars sold there?

Re: Trivia for today
I'll get back to the T5 question later...
For today: It's a fairly well known fact that all '69 and '70 Cobra Jet Mustangs had strengthened shock towers. Which small block Mustangs had the shock tower re-enforments as well for those years? ![]()

I know the 351W isn't a "small block", but GT350's had them also.
