I have a problem with this.

To me the issue of this vehicle being rare is as much up to all of us as it is to Ford and the production numbers.

What this vehicle needs is its own history. All of us doing all the different things we enjoy from showing, to racing, to just daily driving. The mark this car leaves in history will be determined by much more than pure production numbers. Even at 10,000 units for 03 and 5000 for 04 (the highest estimates I have heard) we still have a rare vehicle.

Also, if a class were certified what have we all really gained?

Scott brought this car to tulsa in 2001. He asked US WHAT WE WANTED.
They delivered in spades. To turn around now and consider a class action against ford for the limited production issue, is in my opinion a slap in team Mustang's face.
There are a lot of corporate bean counters that would love to x the mustang from existance, and are looking for an excuse. Every engine used in the car could go into a truck. Remember Ford is a truck company that also builds cars.

I can understand the cobra guys with the power deficit. I cannot understand anyone wanting to bring an action against ford for production numbers. This car will do well in the long run. This car will have an outstanding history. It is up to all of us to make it happen in a positive manner.

Personally, I would not join such a suit. It is in my humble opinion completely unnecessary and gratuitous...

I just wanted to say that I voted for "HAPPY" because I was in Kuwait from Oct 02 till mar 03, then jumped the burm into Iraq from mar 03 till may 03, and I am stationed in Germany currently, so there is no more 03 Machs available thru AAFES ENCS in USAREUR.
Hey, the AAFES dealer in my base has one in Georgia and is currently available.
Red, IUP, 5 spd. and could have it delievered in 45 days from Monday next week. I can't get it since my wife said black or take it back

On the issue of lawsuit, it would be a great idea if they would send us a bag of goodies, but the reason why I didn't get a 03 is that AAFES was only allowed a few number and since all were either already sold or ordered, so I was completely bumped out. Now, when I did find out that the 04 was being made I had to talk the wife into it again.
Now that I have said that, this could go in many ways, either way it goes, I will always keep the new Mach 1 and the future classic Mach 1 I do plan on getting and not from a collectible stand point, but from a personnal stand point of owning the best car ever produced in the world

Limited to 6500

This is probably old news but how many of your local dealerships jacked up the price $10,000 over list when they first received the Machs? You would think they were either 1) greedy (never!!), or 2) might have thought that if Ford wasn't going to produce a second year they could get away with the scalping.

5,000 FINAL NUMBER

I just read in the Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine that the
final production number for 2003 Mach1's is 5,000 cars.

Anyone else hear anything different?

I hear why some peeps are bummed but all I know is we are in a time with a VERY limited variety of affordable "Muscle Cars" on the road. I mean dam even the camaro and Firebird are gone. I’m a fan of all Muscle cars of the past, Ford, Mopar, GM, AMC, you name it. I can find a car made by any of these guys that I would have loved to drive (including my 77 Formula 400 4 spd). So I’m not so upset by the 2004 M1. It only strengthens fords position on the state of the Hot Rod. I myself, in no way would want to sue and weaken the last Muscle Car stronghold. But what the hell do I know...a dam moving hood scoop makes me happy.Silly me

As for myself and I'm sure a few others on this site owning a production car that was manufactured in too few a number has presented a parts availability problem. Ford only has to make parts specific to our cars for 7 years as far as I know. I Do know it is a pain when you need to find that one tiny part to fix something right. If there is a great enough number of 03 and 04 Machs made it will benefit those of us who plan on NEVER selling our cars. There needs to be enough of our cars to make it profitable for aftermarket companies to pick up where Ford left off in 7 years. I just hope they don't make toooooo many. Like everyone here I like owning the Uncommon. Just my .02 worth. Later, Dan

Don't care, I didn't even know about the 6500 deal, look how many they made in the 70s, ours are more rare than those, and it is faster than most of them. MOPO

Old issue revisted

I was doing a search and came across this post first and then another:

http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/...+end+nine+inch

The point is that even in official correspondence from Ford they use the low production figures. In the above email it says 5000. Owning one of 6500 was a major factor in my purchase-I could have bought a Cobra but I bought the Mach instead. Yes I believe I was lied to and I believe Ford shot themselves in the butt by over producing the cars, giving large rebates on them and then producing even more.

Don't get me wrong I love my car but like most people I am pissed because I paid a lot more than I could have based on fictitious statements.

Just my 3 cents.

The only thing I'm that mad about is that the dealership told me that since the car was a limited production vehicle, there would be no rebates, no price cuts, and no special financing. Then about 3 months after I bought the car they start offering rebates, special findacing, and other discounts.

I look at it like this our cars are uniqiue period. I saw elsewhere in this post someone said they would have bought a COBRA if they knew ford was making so many machs. Cobra prod was almost11k units in 03 so we still have a rarer car. I beleive final 03 #'s was 9652 units. I am glad the made an 04 as well. Due to shorter prod run 04 will be less production than 03. Also becuz it is the last year on the current platform why not continue with a sales succes? I owned an 03 taht was wrecked and now have an 04 I am happy either way. Also you could build a fake bullitt and 99% of people wouldnt know it A fake MACH is harder becuz of the R in VIN#. Bottom line I love my car and could give 2 shits how many they build and have no interest in a law suit thats for sure.

here is 03 prod #'s
I got these figures from Dave Wagner of Mach1Registry.
Thanks!

A couple of things here..

1. If something like this happened in 1969 would anyone really
care? (Back then you had your hot rod... PERIOD.)

2. Have we not waited long enough for the arrival of this car?
(some of us might actually hate to see them stop production)

3. Everything these days is about sueing someone

4. Taking into consideration wear and tear, accidents, father time
etc.... even if they made 20000 of them how many are going to
be left in 35 years? (There sure were a lot more made in 69
and 70, and those are now pretty rare dont you think?)

5. Maybe we should just keep sueing the American car companies
and let the Japanese take the whole market over

6. We are all suppose to be Ford guys and gals here, no?

7. And, look at the poll regarding the mileage, it does not
look like there are too many of us keeping the miles off for the
long haul

8. Last but not least (hope you dont get mad at me here). I own
2004 I hope mine is not worth more because of the 40th.
Anniversary badge. (Which to me seems like more of a
reason to build this fantastic car for one more year).

Limited Investment

We all love the Mach One...for it's history and performance. But as a truely " collectible" auto...some seem to look into the past.
I can tell you..that if you keep your Mach undercover...undriven.for 20 yrs! You will get what you paid for it, and in the meantime..never had any fun.
This is a car...not a piece of art...but something..that MUST be enjoyed....I am in 50's drove original Mach's back in the 60's...history may not repeat itself...drive them..love them..and most of all...remember the heritage!

Just thought,

Jack

My thoughts exactly Jack. And after all, after keeping it undriven for 20 years who in the world would want to sell it at that point anyways!

BMW lost a class action on the M5 when they produced more than they advertized driving up sales prices to the first 5,000 owners.
