How right you are!

Dig deeper. The Cooper Monaco was called the "King Cobra" after Shelby dropped in a 370 horse 289. They were lighter than a Cobra roadster and could outperform them.

How right you both are...

Digging deeper...

When the Fox-4 ('94) was beign designed, it came down to three final concepts. The code name for these final designs were named after an actor, an action movie character, and an Olympic athlete. Name them...

How about...right!

The eventual 'winner' was 'Schwartzenegger', which I find funny since the eventual highest powered version was code named 'Terminator'.

For today, there were two versions of the street (production) Boss 429 put into the Mustang. What were their designations and differences?

The two different versions were called 820-S and 820-T. The engine tags differentiated the two and the actualy differences were the rod bolts; 1/2 on 'S' and 3/8 on the 'T' motors. The 'S' was used in the first 279 cars built and had a hydraulic camshaft as well as magnesium valve covers, the later 'T' started out the same but soon changed over to solid lifters and aluminum valve covers. Other differences were; no rev limiter on the 'S' and a different fan blade.

For today; what does the 'KK' in the unique Boss 429 door tag stand for?

I think the KK 429's were the NASCAR versions built by Kar-Kraft at their KK Brighton assembly plant in Brighton MI

Got it right, thanks guys! Kar Kraft was Fords 'Skunk Works' during the late 60's. They built many of Fords specialty, racing and show cars. As we've mentioned before, Kar Kraft also built the 2 Boss 429 Cougars, the mid-engined L.I.D. Boss 429 Mustang, and the Boss 429 powered Quarter Horse Mustang.

For today; in what years did 4 speed equippied Mustangs come with Hurst shifters from the factory? Bonus; what was different about the one installed the last year it was available?

Factory 4 speed Hurst installations started in '70. '70 & '71 with a T- handle, '72 got a round black knob. Last year available was '73 and the difference was the shifter stick was round.
How about this? A similar question with a twist in wording.
In what years did Mustangs come with Hurst shifters from the factory? Bonus: what was different about those installed the last years available?

Got it right!

The rewording is good, I just wanted to be as specific as possible so as to not make anything vague to qnyone reading the question as well as the answer. Also, for those interested the Hurst T-Handle is being reproduced now with the shift pattern in the top like the factory Ford one.

For today, what was the first production Mustang to have rear disc brakes from the factory?

Falcon, I didn’t mean for my rewording to imply that your question wasn’t well done. They are always good. I didn’t really make it clear that I was asking another question to compliment yours.

It cool! Ask as many questions as you want! This is open to anyone who has a good Ford/Mustang/Mach 1 'trivia' question, so please feel free to chime in.

This would have been the '84 SVO Mustang.

For today; we all know that the 428 CJ and SCJ as well as a number of other high performance Mustang engines were designated 'R' code in the VIN. For today; what other code or codes were used for 428 Mustang engines? Bonus; what rare engine had the 'X' code for the VIN? (Hint, it was not the Boss 429. That was a 'Z')

Of course, teh non-ram air 428CJ's carried a 'Q' engine code in the VIN#. This started in 681/2 with the introduciton of that engine in both the Mustang GT CJ and the Shelby GT-500 KR. The early '67 PI equipped GT-500 and '68 GT-500's has an 'S' code, indicating their orignal 390 engine which was of course swapped by Shelby.

For today, there notable changes in the exhaust between the '65, '66, and '67 Shelby GT-350 Mustangs. Even though these changes took place, all three were similarly rated at 306hp. What were the differences between the three?

oops missed the engine code question.

On todays question let's first take into account that not all Shelby's of a particular year came from the factory just alike. One example is headers. If tri Y's ran out , straight tube headers were purchased from a local speed shop to complete a car(s). This is seen more so in the 66's than the 65's.

The 65 cars had tri Y headers and exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires. The 66 cars had tri Y's or straight tube headers and exited out the rear. The 67 cars had either tri Y's (earlier procuction) or the stock manifold's (later production) and exited out the rear.

Sounds like a right answer to me. I was worried about you on the engine code question.

Along the same lines...what was known as the 'bundle of snakes'?

The exhaust system on the GT40s of old. I guess you'd call them headers. What music they made.

Time to resurrect the biggest thread on the registry...

For today, most people know what factories built the Ford Mustang in the US. what most people don't know is that Mustangs were also built in other countries! What were they?

One right (Mexico), one not(Germany)...don't worry there's still three more. I'm not counting Australia, because there's some confusion as to whether the few cars they did do in the early '60's were actually shipped in 'knock down' form or they were simply converted finished cars to RHD as was done for the 2001/2002 Cobras that were sold there.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands,
Lima, Peru, and Valencia, Venezuela.
A late friend of mine, Denis Bunch, had a Venezuela built car stored at his shop in Texas. I'm not sure what became of it after his death.

Sorry Frank, AZDave nailed the last three right on the head. Those are some of the most 'unknown' and unique Mustangs out there. There is even a website dedicated to the overseas built Mustangs, and they do include the Aussie built/modified cars as well. There is an excellent feature on the German Mustang site on a recently uncovered Mexican built car. (PS This is getting tough!)

For today, there was one 'real' Super Snake built in '67. It is a GT-500 powered by a 427 side oiler engine. What was the one cosmetic feature that set it apart from other Shelby's?

It didn't have no stripes on the car.
