Ok little update I found a crank for the car. It’s currently at the machine shop getting looked at and from the phone call I had with them I should expect the engine to be ready.

Re: New guy from Southwest KY.
Lot of good work taking care of a rare CO. great job. I would just buy a used mach 1 engine at this point, but if you want to build it and upgrade the internals that would be cool too.

New guy from Southwest KY.

I considered it, but how many Mach 1 engines have 33k miles now? And this car is rare enough that I wanted to make an effort to save the original engine. If everything goes smoothly I should expect the engine to be ready sometime next week. Then I’ll start putting it together. This car isn’t going to be my hot rod, my Roush has that job. Only engine mods I plan to do is cams and headers while maintaining stock unported intake and heads. Pick your poison. |

Re: New guy from Southwest KY.
nice to see new members.
nice too see someone restoring a mach and valuing the stock form. I have changed mine quite a bit but pulled the stock motor and had a new one built for the job. my stocker only has 13 000 miles. I figured I would hold onto it and keep them together.

This car is rare enough and has low enough miles that I want to keep it close to stock. I am modding things but it’s more on the lines of what I think ford should’ve done to the Mach 1 to begin with. I mean it has a GT body. The Mach 1 is special and holds a lot of history. It deserves a unique body for itself. That’s why most mods with the exterior will be 100% factory ford mods: ambers, Terminator mirrors, 99/01 front bumper, Terminator trunk lid, etc. Then interior will be returned to stock colors; previous owner painted many interior pieces silver to match the center console. Engine will remain stock for the most part besides cams and longtubes; that’s all I want to do, no porting whatsoever. I plan on a Terminator T56 and already have a Terminator IRS being held for me. That’s pretty much all I have planned minus a few minor touches (coil covers, side valance, etc.) and miscellaneous “return to stock” plans. Pick your poison. |

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e4a04d4994.jpg I also brought the car home. Reason being is the car was sitting outside at the shop so it’s in the barn now on the trailer, protected from the elements. The engine is also at my house; I’m thinking I’ll just reassemble it at home, then take everything to the shop and install it in the car. Sorry about about the terrible grammar in this post. Little update:
I started on the engine and I’m waiting on more parts for it. I’ve also been doing some research of what I’m wanting to do with the car and a few things have changed. I’ll get into those at a later date. I also made an offer on this yesterday, and waiting on a reply: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2e7959878b.jpg The color doesn’t do much for me but my intentions are to use it as a parts car. Update. We’re starting on the car hot and heavy. The goal now is to have the car road worthy by August.

Issues arose during torque angle and were resolved with new parts ordered from ford. That went on for about 2 weeks, fast forward to Sunday. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...acf574c1d1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1d268a9a61.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bf9971ba9d.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...aaf191f32f.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7324c15d14.jpg My boss had the suspicion the rings were wrong so they went to the machine shop for inspection. After confirmation they were correct the machine shop installed the rings. Got them back and installed the pistons and rods Sunday. Things went pretty smoothly just time consuming. Both torque sequences were done along with torque angle. Next will be the heads which have the B head cobra cams in them for now. Later down the road I’ll swap them out for some Comps. I’ve discussed with a friend of mine about some other modifications to consider doing to the engine. It’s nothing major, my intentions are still the same as day one. Make this car what I want and not what is the norm. It’s will remain N/A but it will not be a max effort N/A build. No porting will be done but some other mods will be considered. All depends how the funds look once the car is running. Which is the goal right now, nothing will be spent on mods, at this moment, unless it’s a necessity in getting the car road worthy Pick your poison. |
