For today, the much forgotten '71 Boss 351 replaced the Boss 302 as Fords homologation special for the Trans Am series. What rule allowed this larger engined car to be allowed in? How did this rule affect the earlier 'Pontiac Trans Am' automobile? What was cosmetically different from the Mach 1 and the Boss 351? Bonus; what two luxury/comfort options could you not get on the Boss 351?
Yes , your right on the 1st racing team 2nd is Jack Roush and Mark Martin no. 6 vaigra racing team. yes the Azure Blue is vaigra blue:LAUGH: see in front end of the car here.

So should we start refering to all the Azure cars as Viagra Blue instead...and what does that say about owners of said Mach 1's?

The Boss 351 questions;
What unique cosmetic features does it have?
That two luxury options could you not get?
What rules change allowed the homologation of the larger engined car compared to the Boss 302?
What effect did this earlier rule have in the Pontiac Trans Am?

Well, for one thing, the Boss 351 had a different black-out paint treatment on the hood than the Mach 1. I don't believe you could get A/C with them.

OK...since nobody reads this anyway; '71 Boss 351 had a squared paint scheme on the hood that did not foolow the contours of the ram air scoops that the Mach 1 offered. There was one Boss that did come off the line with the Mach 1 type paint scheme and has been featured in a number of articles. The other unique cosmetic itemis that the Boss 351 had a chrome front bumper incorproated with the sport grille. Base model cars used the chrome front bumper with the standard grille, Mach 1's had a painted front bumper with the sport grille.
The two options you could not get on a Boss 351? Like a Boss 302 or Boss 429, no A/C or auto tranny. You could get power windows, tilt or anything else you wanted...just not those.
As far as the engine rules change; prior to '71 you had to produce your homologation specials with an engine no larger than 5.0 litres, which was the largest size allowed by the SCCA for Trans Am racing. In '71 you were allowed to run destroked engines, so the 5.8 litre Boss engine was allowed for production. The car that bore the race series name (Trans Am)never came with a 5.0 litre engine (until '80) so it was run with the Chevy Z-28 engine (302) or a 303 Pontiac sourced race motor instead of its' production 400 cid (RA III or RA IV) engine. Not sure quite which loophole they jumped through to do that...

For today; 1969 was the last year of production of the Mustang GT until 1982. What were the differences between the GT and the Mach 1 (Some of which apply today as well)? What was unique about the gas cap on the GT from the earlier GT's?

Geez...don't everybody answer at once! The gas cap on the GT featured a cog or gear edging aroind the outside of the cap, which make sit one of the more unique and expensive caps to track down. The GT could be had in coupe, convertable, or fastback form whereas the Mach 1 was fastback only.

For today, the '03/'04 Mach 1 features ram air via the shaker hood scoop. How long has it been since the Mustang offered a true functional ram air system? Bonus; what was the first year that the Mach 1 came with ram air as a standard feature?

The '03 Mach 1 was the first Mach 1 to feature ram air as a standard feature, all other previous times it was an option or on an optional engine. The '03 is also the first Mustang to have ram since 1973 (351C 2V). Thanks, Frank, for taking some quality Hooters time to play!

Falcongtho3, thanks for doing the trivia thing. I for one, am not able to answer the questions from work, and by the time I am home, someone else has beaten me to the punch usually. That doesn't mean that I'm not reading the posts. I do....almost daily.

Furthermore, I appreciate the work you are putting into coming up with the question.

Thanks for the kind words. I was beginning to feel kind of lonely here... I don't expect everyone to answer the questions, and I really don't think that the super-mega-detail type questions that would baffle an MCA judge are the right thing to do here to have fun and learn some things at the same time...but do feel free to join in and ask your own questions, even if its' something you don't know the answer to! And thanks to Frank, Twister Special and all the others who participate as well.:THUMBSUP:

Since we all got giddy about the Mach 1 on 24, I figured I throw out this TV related question. On the show 'Alias' there was an episode where she jets off to a European country to again save the world. To escape the baddies she hops into an SVT Focus. What lets you know that this sequence was shot in the US and not Europe?
