For today; In 1967 many of the early Shelby Mustangs had to have substantial reworking of the front fiberglas pieces before the cars could be delivered, why was this?

Because the front was extended to give a different look, more meaner.

True, there was a redesign of the front end styling but the reworking of the final pieces were of a much different nature... (Hint:this was also not due to the relocation of production to A.O.Smith in Livonia, that didn't happen until 1968)

Have something to do with the distance between the headlights?

The car given to the '67 Shelby designers as a buck for the new body parts had been previously used for crash testing for seatbelt strength. After rebuilding the car (and not too well, apparently) the car was used for these important measurements and nothing fit right!

OK, it's been too long...
For today, the '01 Bullitt had many GT specific items including badging on the fenders. What 2 major items were deleted from the GT package when the Bullitt option was chosen? (I hate to lead off with this easy of a question, but it's the best I could come up with.)

Are we talking about exterior only? or interior & exterior?

That's one...and I'm only thinking exterior. But, since you mentioned it...there was another major OPTION that was not available on the Bullitt. What was it?(Hint, I don't mean convertible, either.) As far as the interior, I'm not aware of anything that wasn't available on the Bullitt that was available on Premium GT's. Please let me know if I'm missing something!

Wheels? You could get either the Bullit wheels (Premium wheels)or the standard GT wheels for a GT. But, only the Bullit wheels (Premium wheels) on the Bullit

color choices were deleted. Bullitt was only offerred with Black, the dark green, and the dark blue. The green was only offerred on the Bullitt. The Bullitt also had its calipers painted red. The C-pillars were different than the GT's (Mach 1 too). Chrome rolled exhuast tips were only offerred on the Bullitt as well. The Bullitt badge on the rear was in place instead of the GT badge.

Time's up!
The other major feature delete was the fog lights! (although extra credit goes out for the c-pillars)
The major option I was thinking of that you couldn't get (that was available on the GT)was Automatic Transmission!

hmm, interesting, I always thought it was an option to get that. Though, I never did look into it. Interesting about the fog lights as well, I hadn't noticed that. Awesome.

For today; Although in 1970 louvers and rear spoiler became an option on all Mustang fastbacks, what was the only Mustang you could actually get them on in 1969? Bonus; what popular option that could not be had on this car even though it could be gotten on its' '70 counterpart?

I'm gonna try a shot in the dark.

I'll say the Boss 302 and the option in 70 was the shaker.

The 1969 Boss 302 had the option of Louvers on the rear window and...
four headlights on the '69 vs. two on the '70. The '69 did not have a shaker hoodscoop. The '70 did. The corner front signal lights were horizontal located below the headlights and not vertical like the '70's. In 1969, the entire hood was flat black and the side stripes were a 'C' shape. In 1970, the side stripes were an 'L' shape and the hood stripe was a center stripe that took up 1/4-1/3 of the hood's width. The 'L' shape side stripes also reached up across the hood to meet each other. I believe they did at least. I believe the answer you wanted though was the Shaker.

I have a trivia question:
(I hope this wasn't asked already)
What was the name of the car, that failed miserably, that sparked the initial development of the Mustang? (a Ford product).
What was offered in this car?

I'll take a shot at this one: The Edsel. One of the unique features of this car was the location of the transmission selector botton being mounted in the hub of the steering wheel.

Everyone who answered the Boss/Shaker questions were correct. An earlier question also pointed out that the '69 Boss 302 deleted the sail panel pony ornamentation and the side scoops, design elements that would diappear on all '70 model fastbacks.

The Edsel may have had a solely economic impact on Ford's desire to make money, which would have helped move along the Mustang...but...
In 1962 Ford released a package on the Falcon called the Futura. The Futura was NOT an option package as one might assume; it was an actual model of car according to Ford. The Futura offered new Bucket seats and a four-speed "floor-shift" transmission. It was built to oppose Chevy's Corvair Monza. The failure of the Futura resulted in a team of Ford minds to work on a prototype that eventually became the Ford Mustang.

Bonus: What is the official first year that the Ford Mustang was released?

Awesome. Perhaps another piece of trivia tomorrow.

The Mustang was released and referred to as a '65 model, although the early production cars (sales which were officially begun April 17, 1964, ads on April 16, and Job 1 on March 9) are now called 64 1/4 cars, a term Ford never actually used at the time.

Now, what was the base price at its' initial announcement?

Uh, I don't know. I could look it up if I still had all my Mustang History books with me, but I don't. I do know that only the coupe and convertible were involved in the initial release. The fastback was offered in 1965 (the year...not model year). This is also when Shelby released his mustangs.

$2,368 f.o.b. Detroit! It was prominant in all the print ads. Also, the original term used for the Mustang concept was 'Special Falcon'!

Now, it's your turn to work...you have to read all the posts on this thread for the answer... (I think this is the largest thread we have here, so you may be a while), but try: Cougar, Torino X-T Bird, Allegro, Bronco, Puma, Cheeta(h) and Colt. You can also throw in Cardinal as well, but it is more a reference to the first Mustang concept with two seats and the mid engined Tanus V-4 set up.
