Although we've spent a lot of time talking about Magnum 500 wheels here since they came on some Mach 1's, there was a wheel made by a famous aftermarket company that was available on '65 Shelby GT-350's as an option. Who was the company that made the wheel for the Shelby? Bonus flame starter: What were the standard and factory optional wheels (if any)for '69, '70, '71, '72, and '73 Mach 1's? Super bonus;standard and optional wheels (if any) on Boss 302, 351, and 429's?

Cragars on the GT-350's.

I believe on the mach's was the magnum 500's and I'm not sure on 71,72 but on 73's there was an aluminum slot mag optional.

And on the Boss's it was the magnum 500 again.

'69 Mach 1;Chrome styled steel wheels with plain caps and trim rings. Similar to the same used on '68 and '69 GT's, but not with color keyed trim. (ALthough the prototype had red trim inset into the wheel.)
'70 Mach 1; unique 5 slotted steel wheel with wheel cover, grey with triangular holes and polished outer lip simulating a trim ring.
'71 Mach 1; Dog dish center caps with trim rings, Magnums as an option. Same for '72.
'73 Mach 1; Same standard wheel with an aluminum slotted dish wheel optional.
Boss 302; Standard:'69 Argent painted Magnum 500, '70 Dog pans with trim rings. Optional both years, Chrome Magnums with black trim.
Boss 429; Chrome Magnums with black trim.

They also had the dog dish and trim ring in 70. That is what the Twisters came with.

I think the Pace Cars built in '70 for the NASCAR speedway tracks (ARI?) also had those as well. One thing aobut Ford back then, you could get things done in a special way (paint, decals, trim, etc.) much easier than you can now.

For today; Classic Mustang GT's had unique stripes as part of their option package. What was unusual for the '68 model year GT's as far as their stripes were concerned?(Technically there are two right answers.) Bonus: What was the major difference between the '67 and '68 428 PI motor under the hood of the Shelby GT-500 (hint-staring right at you when you open the hood.)?

The 67 GT-500's had the dual four barrel 428 while the 68 had a single four barrel.

The 67 GT stripes were on the rocker panels while the 68 GT had a c stripe up on the body.

Since you brought up 67 and 68, there is a story I want to share. Back in the 80's my local sheriff called one afternoon and wanted me to come to his house and look at a Mustang two of his nieces had driven out from Denver. Said one of the tail lites wouldn't come on. Fixed that by moving the spare tire from the plug in. That was a problem with those early years. The spare would unplug the right tail lite. I got to looking this stang over and asked what year it was. They said 67. The interior had 67 deluxe front seats and deluxe 68 rear. The driver side had a 67 rear quarter panel with 67 side scoop. On the passenger side it had a 68 rear quarter panel, 68 side scoop and reflector. The hood was 68 along with the grill. They had gotten it from a known restorer out there. When they got home the car was taken back and money refunded. Their mother was someone you didn't want to cross.

'68 was the only year for c-stripes on the GT(1st answer), but '68's also came with both that style as well as rocker panel stripes on some GT's that year!(2nd answer). Right as well on the carb question!

Tilt away was an option in 67. I'll leave the other two for others.

I'll try the last two.

Power windows were first in 71.

T-Tops were first in the mustang II's.

Right on all those! (I really almost screwed this one up on the T-Tops, I completely forgot they were available on the Mustang II. Guess I'll have to do up a really good M II question...hmmm?)

OK, to make ammends for the near Mustang II goof, here's todays question. In '78 Ford offered a special Cobra package in addition to the regular Cobra II. What was it called and list its special features. Also:Bonus, what were the (visual) differences between the two different Cobra II packages that were offered during the Cobra II's run?
Gotta go batten down the hatches...again. It's about to get real wet in these parts of the country!

It was called the King Cobra. The striping was different, had a cobra on the hood , the hood scoop faced the windshield, ala trans am, and they had t-tops. That's all I know about them. See one setting at a farmstead everyday rotting away.

Hope "Bill" doesn't give you too big of a blow.

Thanks T.S. The big easy got over 4" of rain today, and we got nearly that here. It's not over yet, but the worst seems to be past.
The King Cobra did have the snake version of the screaming chicken, lower skirts, striping, mesh wheels, and 5.0 (lo-po) engine. The the original Cobra II had Lemans stripes and lower rocker stripes, the secind generation version had a 'hipper' wide stripe over the top of the body with wide billboard stripes down the sides with multi color graphics.

For today; although they look similar, the hood scoop used on the 68 1/2 Cobra Jet and the scoop used on the '69 and '70 Mustangs (as well as Torinos, Falcons, Fairlanes and Rancheros) are not the same. What are the differences?

The 1968 1/2 Cobra Jet Mustang scoop was functional and was standared. It had a inlet valve and a vacume motor to operate it at full throttle.

I believe that the functional ram air options for 1969 & 70 utilized the shaker hood scoop. Scoops of the type found on the 1968 1/2 CJ were non-functional on the Mustangs in 69 & 70.

I believe that if you did not have a shaker but had a functional, attached to the hood, scoop there was cut outs under it and the air cleaner housing with a rubber "gasket" that fit up against the hood when it was closed and the lid was the same diameter as the filter. Thus allowing air to enter all around the filter. I have a friend with this set up that came factory on his 69 Fairlane Cobra. Seems I have seen a very few Mustangs with this set up. The 68 Shelby's had this set up also.

The '68 was in fact functional with a flapper door and seal on the air cleaner that pressed up to the hood for the ram air effect. The Cougar, Torino, and Ranchero had similar set-ups and boy are they expensive if you need one! The standard '69/'70 scoop was non-functional, but there are two other differences that I am looking for...so I'll let this one simmer for a while. (The ram-air/non-ram-air answer was third on my list!)

The only thing I can think of is that some had turn signal indicators in the rear of the scoop and maybe some were open in the front or had the grill.

That's the two things I was looking for. The '68 scoops didn't have the front grill or the rear mounted turn signal indicators.
