License Plate Lights

Upon inspection, the bulbs and pigtails seemed to have melted a little. May seem like a dumb question, but do I need to replace the whole thing or was this a problem just caused by the bulbs themselves? Did they short out or something? Any ideas?

How did you go about fixing it? Normally I'd let it go since you can't even see them but I'm just trying to avoid a potential warning/ticket.

Something about a microwave with wifi and Tapatalk.

Ok, I'll start with that and hope the problem isn't anything deeper. Thanks!

Re: License Plate Lights

Ya let me know how it turns out because I found mine right before I put it away for the winter so I only got a few hours on the new bulbs

Re: License Plate Lights

Mine arent melted but I threw a set of LED's in there from superbright LED's. They look great (really clean white)and would probably put off a lot less heat if any. Maybe its a connection problem at the bulb as well. Dielectric grease helps that. Just some ideas.
Oh and make sure the contacts inside are clean and hold the bulbs tight too.

Re: License Plate Lights

Same problem with mine. Just replaced the bulbs and everything has worked fine for over a year now. I do like the idea of going LED though. I think the lens area is just too small and builds up a lot of heat. One of mine is actually cracked.

I think you hit it right on the head, one of my covers is cracked and the other broke so I would guess its just too much heat built up in a small area

Same deal here. I just looked them over after my post. If you find some replacements let me know.

Glad to hear, thanks. I liked the idea of LED until I saw pics on American Muscle. Way too bright for my taste.
