Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
Ok so I got the idea for this thread because my sister-in-law needed an oil change in her car. Normally the oil changes were done at the dealership, however she had dinner with the wife and I, so I told her that I would just do it real fast to save time.
Then I ran into my biggest pet peeve when working on cars. So what is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to cars. It can be from working on them or anything of the sort as long as it follows the rules of the forum. Here is mine: She has a 2007 Chevy Equinax. So I crawl under there with my 13mm socket ready to pull the bolt off the oil pan. Much to my surprise since it was always done at a dealership before, the bolt was stuck. So instead of trying to pry it off, I sprayed it with a little PB blaster, went inside and had dinner to allow the PB Blaster some time just in case it was due to rust build up. Come back out about 30 min later and give another tug on the bolt (Yes I was doing it in the correct direction...lol) but still wouldn't come loose. I then repositioned myself and grabbed a cheater bar and gave it all my might and BOOM....stripped the screw...WTF... It seriously felt like the bolt was put on there by superman... So I told her to take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it because there is no reason that the oil pan bolt should ever be on there that tight. So there you have it folks...the thing that p!sses me off most about working on cars is when an idiot overtightens a bolt that has no business being over tightened. |

Re: Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
Oh boy, I could go on forever.....lol. I have several in relation to things I can't stand in cars that I own, or things that other people do to their cars. On my cars, I can't stand the little squeaks and rattles that I can never seem to get rid of. It drives me crazy. I can't stand all the little dings and nicks in the paint that nobody notices, but I can't see anything else. lol. Now on other peoples cars, top of the list has to be all the rattle can, flat black paint jobs, just horrible looking. Right up there with it has to be stick on, parts store do-dads. Fake portholes are one of the top offenders, followed by fake hood scoops, ugly "graphic" kits, stickers of pretty much any type, "R" embems or "type R". Lastly, black wheels. Sorry, I hate them.

Re: Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
when the guy at the parts counter has to ask which engine and manual or auto when looking for something like windshield wipers
in the car scene my 2 big ones are 1) this "stance" ********. Just when you think ricers cant come up with anything dumber they come out with this 2) theres always the one guy with his uncle's friend's brother that has one just like that but he special ordered it from the factory with

Re: Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
On forums mine would be anyone trying to sell something and starting the thread with "feeler", or "gauging interest". Is the car or part for sale or not, or are they just waiting for someone to come along and overpay? Either way it's stupid. 4sale, for sale, selling, even wish to sell would be better.
My other would be when I'm selling a item. I have listed a price or best offer and someone calls, texts, or emails, and asks "what's the least you'll take fur it". I always respond with "what's the most you will pay for it" lol. Some just really need to learn how to negotiate. Edit: and black wheels. |

that kind of crap on craigslist is why I now have a throw away email account and a google voice number. If you're an absurd buyer I can tell you what I think of your offer with no fear of reprisal

Re: Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
I agree with all of the above to include bolt sizes! I hate nothing more than to start taking something apart and look its a 10mm so here I go but nooo. The last two at the bottom are 11mm. 1 mm diference , really . Dont get me started on why engineers put some of the most needed to be removed items in the most hard to get to places, lol

People like a local cone crusher that think they're so much more special than they really are. Somehow the cars engine keeps making more power when nothing has been changed. And the worse part? People believe him and think he's awesome. And that people like me are just haters.

I got one that I am currently dealing with...I put new brake pads and rotors on the mach a couple weeks ago....They are still in their break in phase so they are squeaking a little bit...the more I slam on the brakes, the more it goes away and will pass in time. Having said that, it is quite embarrassing having a really nice mach 1 and rolling up to another really nice car and coming to a stop with noisy brakes...cause I am sure they are running to their forums saying..."GUESS WHAT IDIOT I SAW TODAY." Hopefully in a week or so that will be all taken care of since my car is in driveable condition again...lol... |

Re: Biggest Pet Peeves Related to Cars
I wouldn't call it a peeve, but more like a curiosity is when people can't bring themselves to be a good sport after taking a loss, or at the least be able to give a thumbs up.
