Thanks for your time Skoozo. Perhaps down the road this info will really help someone out when they are trying to make sure they are buying a legit Mach 1.

There was 36 pre production Mach1's built. Some will go to resale from the "B" lot in Dearborn, Mi. Two were the pace cars for today's NASCAR race. This will be in addition to the totoal production of 03 cars built, 6,500, NOT!!

Best bet, they are going to go to resale through Ford internal. The cars were built prior to production. That means the first Ford people to know have the jump on everyone else to tag the vehicle's at resale.

No,Ford has a "B" lot that sell's cars to company employee's. The employee tags the Vin# and when the vehicle is turned in the person is then contacted. The person then has a few days to make the sale thru a dealer of their choice. Once the sale is done the employee can't sell the vehicle for at least six months.
This is not new and Ford has had this resale lot for some time. Many of the dealers in metro Detroit know of it. My ex-girlfriends dad owns a few L/M dealers here in Michigan. I'm sure the pace cars are already taken. |

Hey - I just bought one of these!
I know that my VIN was really weird - so I did a little digging to find this thread. Mine is 301786 - right in the middle of this list!
Now, what does this really mean? Do I have one of the first 25 cars built?

And what is Transportation Services?

Want to hear something really weird? I remembered seeing this 3017XX VIN before, and thought it was odd then. So, I just checked the VIN on a car sin a showroom only 20 miles from me - it appears that maybe it followed mine down the line! Here's a link to it:
http://www.freedomfordofpa.com/pages...P42R23F301790# Note that the others between mine and this one (Founder Dave's included) were built on a day other than 11/8/02...

VIN's
COngrats to anyone having a VIP Car.
NO THere is NO difference in the vehicle, just a low VIN number. They did NOT Build these IN Sequence, they took these numbers out way before production, and then assigned them when necessary. Mine was built 11/22 - #301788 - ETA 12/6 - Actual 1/7/03!! Go Figure.!??

For the record mine came off the line Thursday 11/7 and have it from a reliable source it was the second (first Torch) Mach of the line after production start Monday 11/4. The first "Production" Mach was white. Check Skoozo's list; 5 done 11/7 that is the earliest date.

I wish someone could figure out what is Ford's method to their madness...
So, these VINs were assigned early - but possibly delivered late? The salesman mentioned that this car was not invoiced (or delivered, can't remember which) until 1/8/03? Maybe it was a static display somewhere? Just a theory?

Interesting. If your source is right it appears the sequence number in the Mach 1's VIN is pretty meaningless as my Mach 1 has a sequence number thousands below yours. |

that is true, they are "relatively" meaningless. Look at Skoozo's list; the second lowest vin (301789) has a date of 12/4; exactly a month after job#1 launch 11/4. Also note it's an automatic. vin 336598 that is 19th lowest done 12/18.
compare vin sequence to the status date and you will see there is very little relationship other than occasionally bunching of vin's within a given week or so. |

Skoozo's list for 11/7 and 11/8 Mach1's
Unit No Paint DSO Trans Status 340165 D3 13 M 11/7/2002 340364 L5 41 M 11/7/2002 340685 D3 27 M 11/7/2002 340804 D3 23 M 11/7/2002 340807 D3 11 M 11/7/2002 301777 CX 48 M 11/8/2002 336484 D3 16 M 11/8/2002 336488 CX 24 M 11/8/2002 The VINs are meaningless as far as build sequence. Lets try something else, what is the state inspection date on your Mach1? This doesn't mean anything either but what the heck. 11/27
