Re: tremec 3650 oil questions

I havn't had my trans rebuilt but I just put some royal purple syncromax in. Works beautifully. A noticeable improvement over the stock fluid.

What did the rebuild cost and what did they do?

Re: tremec 3650 oil questions

i got a good deal actually (i think) considering most transmission shops wont even touch these, i paid $850 and as far as i know they replaced all synchros and removed all the plastic clips off the forks and made custom aluminum ones (stronger i guess according to the machinst) and just labor (just bench work i took the transmission off myself and gave it to them.

My tranny wasn't rebuilt but I changed my oil in it not long ago, I used the Mobil synthetic ATF and it seemed to work better. Just make sure you put the right amount in, the original owners manual has the wrong amount listed, there was a tsb on it but I forget the amount.

3.2 is the correct amount. Most do the wrong thing and fill it to the top.

YEP! Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF (AUTOMATIC TRANS FLUID). Some people substitute one quart of lucus transfix if the transmission is old, but my transmission was rebuilt too, and that stuff is too thick for a newly built trans IMO.

There has been a lot of discussion about NOT putting in the syncromesh or full synthetic because it is too slippery for the carbon fiber, brass, and card board found inside the transmission, but I had horrbile lock out issues running non-synthetic fluid with with lucus transfix. My transmission only shifted smooth after the mobil 1 full synthetic ATF without the lucus transfix.

3.2 Quarts Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF my friend.

Re: tremec 3650 oil questions

Most of the TR3650's came with Mercon V from the factory.

Later on Ford found that it was a huge mistake, and this is the result:

http://www.stangnet.com/images/stori...s/04-15-06.pdf

btw, XT-2-QDX = Mercon/Dexron III

All other fluids are too slick for the synchros, what you want is Mercon/Dexron III

By filling to the top, does that end up being less than 3.2qts?

No, if you fill it to the top it will be close to 4 qts.

Remove the shifter and pour it in the top of the trans from there (easiest and cleanest way). Just make sure the plastic cap/cup on the bottom of the shifter comes out with the shifter, and goes back in! My buddy left the cap out on his Bullitt (also has the TR3650) and it had issues shifting until I realized he left it out, then it was smooth after we put it back in.
