KB 2.1L owners...

Just trying to get a general consensious on what I should be looking at power wise as I feel I got some bad info from KB when I ordered my blower in 08. I told them I wanted something that could make 600rwhp with no issues. Tech told me that the 2.1L would push 20psi + and have no issues with that. We pullied the blower to make 14psi to start and it made 515rwhp/499rwtq. We then pullied it for 17psi and it made 516rwhp/505rwtq. Called KB up and they told me that anything past 14psi with the 2.1L was just blowing hot air. I know other have pushed past 14psi with it and I've posted on Modular fords as well.

Right now I'm at 525rwhp/533rwtq at 17psi...intercooled.
I'm at 9:0 compression, ported heads, stock cams, 8 rib setup...Longtubes, catted x-pipe run through a manual trans.

Do this power level seem right for this setup? The two others I've talked to that use 2.1L on their machs are making a bit more than that.

A buddy of mine is having this issue aswell on his 2v, his tuner told him Water meth would do wonders for it at that boost level.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

Something is wrong, your numbers are low. The 2.1 will run out of stream rather quickly but at 17 psi it shouldn't. What were your iat temps at 17 psi? Your tuner should be able to tell you.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

Yea that seems a bit low considering you pulled the same power at with 3psi less, 515-520 @ 13-14psi sounds ok, but 17 should be at around 560whp, maybe a tad more. I know you have an 8-rib but could it be belt slip? Kenne Bell is full of it, even an eaton makes additional power going from 13-17psi, no reason why a KB wouldn't.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

I have a 2.1 KB, it puts down 570rwhp on 15lbs of boost and is tuned for 91 octane. I have a tune for 17lbs, it put down 606 rwhp on 91 octane. I decided not to tune for higher boost, because I did not want to pay for 100 octane gasoline just to drive my Mach down the street. 17lbs of boost is the limit for 91 octane. Try to find out a/f ratio, total timing, fuel pump duty cycles percentages, fuel injector cycles, IAT temps, etc, from your tuner. He should be willing to share this info, if not, then change tuners.

Heat is what destroys the HP on superchargers. That's why I put on an oversize fluidyne radiator, 7qt oil pan with remote oil filter and remote oil cooler, oversize aluminum heat exchanger, oversize inter cooler fluid reservoir, modded the mach scoop for fresh air intake to the supercharger, front air scoop on front facia with 4" tube to sealed air box that collects cold fresh air. To get the best performance out of a supercharger, Overkill the air induction, oil system, radiator system, fuel system. Do this and your numbers will be what you expect them to be.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

I'm pretty sure I responded to your post over on the other forum, and there definitely is something not quite right. And the KB tech you talked to is full of BS! The 2.1 blower can continue to make power right up to around 21-23psi. At those boost levels though it's going to heat soak really bad. Mine was setup specifically, right from the get go, to be a 16psi installation. Everything that was necessary, as far as the blower kit was concerned, was shipped right from Kenne Bell. And I'm running an 8.5:1 compression ratio Aluminator motor

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

We are tuning it on Thursday and I'll get the data from my tuner as well as datalog myself.

How can you really tell if you have belt slippage? Most have told me that the boost will drop and my boost has always been steady at WOT.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

even if the belt is slipping you are still putting out 17 pounds of boost.

Yeah, I've had numerious KB techs tell me different things now. They did help my out when I blew my motor and I had to get the blower rebuilt do to engine debris in there but other than that I haven't had the greatest experience with them. I would have just bought a bigger blower if thats what was need to reach my overall goals. I had a $20k budget for the car....

I've have some new data and numbers on Thursday as well as the overall outcome of the nitrous tune. I'll post everything up...numbers, datalogs info etc.

Thanks for the input from everyone.

Re: KB 2.1L owners...

I can't imagine you would have a belt slip issue with a complete 8-rib conversion! I'm using a 6-rib belt, and all the stock 6-rib pulleys on all the accessories, and the blower without any slippage issues.

Sounds like my experience with them, the reason I went Whipple the second time around.

Plus when I got the hit the coolent crossover had a hole in it, the MAF they send was bad and the intercooler pump didn't work. They then argued with me on the phone.....I just sent it back and then sent me a new pump and MAF....and the same crossover I sent to them. So we just welded the hole closed. They squared me away with the rebuild but overall I have not been impressed with their customer service.

scott do you have the W210AX? Does it fit under the scoop or did you have to ditch it?

Yes, I have the newer generation II 2.3 Whipple. I mounted my shaker to the underside of my hood so when it's closed it looks stock but open it doesn't cover up the blower.

This was also my experience with KB. When I complained about my numbers to my tuner, they called KB, and my tuner seemed to get better support from KB. (I'm only at 9 PSI though)

But I thought your setup made about the same #'s he's talking about. If I remember you were about 527 & 495 without the 100 shot NX kit? Or did you get a retune?

You're right Curt, but he should be making more power than me since he's running 17psi of boost on a 9.0:1 compression motor with ported heads and 8-rib pulleys. I'm thinking he should be in the 550-565 wheel horsepower range easily, all other things being equal of course! He could be hitting a wall with fuel delivery or mass air, since I'm not sure what he's running for those.

My Maf counts are good. I'm running an SCT BA3000 and I have plenty of room with it. My fuel system has always been an issue. We are going over the whole thing this weekend as I should have no issues with my setup.

It's going back on the dyno is a week with a massive amount of changes so I'll post up what happens.
